Does Tony Abbot Struggle with Women in Power?

Re: Does Tony Abbot Struggle with Women in Power?
It's actually kind of obvious. If you look at his past policies, he's tended to be on the other side from the angels.
Now, he's obviously trying to avoid putting forward any substantive plans - it's all just waffle. Yet when things do slip out, it tends to be to the detriment of the worker and the benefit of the boss (Hockey's gaff for one).
You have two possibilities:
Add in his blatant negative politicising (he was originally a proponent of the carbon tax) and you arrive at a whole package that is almost a textbook example of the type you don't want anywhere near power. Two faced, lying, hidden agenda, not smart enough, power crazed, and in the pocket of rich men who fund him.

You have two possibilities:
- He doesn't really have a complete and integrated set of policies - he's just making it up on the hoof. Given what he does say this is not good - he tends to be a slash and burn right winger. But it also means he's not fit to stand, because he hasn't done the groundwork to create a viable set of policies.
- He does have a complete and integrated set of policies - so why isn't he describing them? Why does he only talk in platitudes and negatives? Well obviously he must think to actually spell out those policies it to mean they have less chance of implementation - because the voters would desert him.

I won't disagree with your views on his political views. He's a numpty of the highest order. But I would not be surprised for him to have a short lived time in the big seat and then get pushed aside for, perhaps Turnbull (who would be the better choice as PM over Abbott or Gillard). Abbott just seems to do a better job at damaging the Labor partys credibility in the eyes of the Australians, according to opinion polls.

yet the press aren't covering it. It appears the reason he gets to damage labor is because nobody is really holding him to task, or holding him up to the ridicule he should be facing.
I kind of wish the labor lot would bring back Rudd, since I think that would precipitate the libs bringing back Turnbull. Neither are great, but they are better than the current incumbents.

So at the end of the day he doesn't have a problem with women, just Gillard like the majority of us do.

Wonderful, a choice between a liar and an idiot.

Dylan Moran says that Gillard looks like both ends of a pantomine horse. I can see it. I have a problem with pantomime horse looking women. Especially ginger ones.

We have a socialist government
TA is not a socialist
Therefore he gets my vote

In fact labor should really be called liberal, since they are pretty close to the centre of the political spectrum. The australian liberals should be considered right wing, probably even further than the Conservatives in the UK.
The disquieting thing is that the attacks on Gillard seem to be mainly focused on hair colour, voice, demeanour, or supposed political promises made in the assumption of majority government. It does look very much like the underlying problem most people have is at least slightly sexist - policywise her actions seem to be quite conservative.
If Abbott gets in it seems it will be a case of the country getting the PM it deserves...

Gillard isn't socialist, not even close.

(quite an interesting old transcript really.)

Googling "gillard media gag" also brings up some concerning articles.
I think she is a problem in many ways.
Australia certainly isn't exactly thriving under her watch.

Nah. You could tell if there were actually a socialist party in charge in Australia, since the first and most obvious action would be to kick out the mining companies and make sure the resources were all state owned and exploited - for the benefit of the people.
That would actually be a very sensible move to make (similar to other countries which have collectively benefited from resources), and it's the lack of any true socialists that means it isn't put forward. Which is to the detriment of the country.
Ahh, I see, a reasoned and carefully thought out political position...

It is indeed.
What many on BE fail to realise is that this is an internet forum (aka entertainment, opinions, fun etc) and not the Harvard University debating society......
Tea anyone?
