Smile Documents needed for rent

I had a email through today from ray whites estate agents. I was asking the question as to wether I could secure a property for rent before I landed in Brisbane. The quick answer was no, yet he went to say that certain documentation was needed. The documents seemed to have a points score attached to them, and it appears that you have to score 100 points minimum to enable you to successfully rent a property. Any more information from you guys would be great

The document they want is yellow and has $50 written in the corner. A pile of about 100 should secure your rental. ( this is serious )

Read http://www.rta.qld.gov.au/general_tenancies_section.cfm as the rta goven most rentals in brisbane. These are examples of points, but they won't recognise most overseas documents, so you normally just passport, driving license, any document you can find, and 3 months rent up front to swing it

* Driver's licence, passport or proof of age card - 30 points*
* Your last 4 rent receipts - 20 points
* Previous tenancy agreement - 20 points
* Rental bond receipt - 20 points
* Pay advice - 15 points
* Motor vehicle registration - 15 points
* Electricity, gas or phone account - 15 points each
* Credit card or bank statement - 15 points each
* Pension card or Health Care card - 15 points each
* Medicare card or bith certificate - 10 points each

We are renting our house out in brisbane as we are now in the US. I would also say that the rental market in brisbane is crazy at the moment. And apart from the 100 point thing relators are checking backgrounds. I know that with our house we are in the position of picking and choosing who we rent to.

So I would bring some references with you. If your renting in the UK ask your current landlord. If you own your house bring a mortgage statement as it will show you are good on paying on time. Also bring a couple of standard references from employers etc, you know that say your a good person, reliable etc.

then get ready to try and find somewhere to rent, and as the other poster said get your cash ready!
