Do you think you've changed since moving to Australia?

Do you think you've changed since moving to Australia?
And if so how?
I think I've changed in a few ways...
- cycle more
- talk to strangers more*
- swim more
- better at driving*
- more confident generally*
- run less (although I still do it, just have to do it first or last thing in the day otherwise it's too hot)
- diet probably worse*
- spend more time outdoors
- swear more*
- use different words (eg ambo, servo, bottle-o etc...)
but I think generally I'm pretty much the same. Have spoken to others though who think they've changed quite a lot.
(* these may be to do with my job rather than the move to Australia)

I seem to have become browner. Not sure why that is, I wash everyday.

Do more - Yard worky things, chainsawing, ride-on mowing, family things, DIY, playing cricket, watching sport (live), appearing on stage in front of sell-out crowds (hey, blow yer trumpet why don't ya!), smiling
Do less - Go to the pub, walking for pleasure (in summer, anyway), rock climbing (i was rubbish anyway), shaking head at futility of life and wondering if there is any point and who would miss me if I just ... like ... died.

no, not really. As a person I am pretty much the same. I am quite diverse with things that I like to do, and tend to do what suits my mood, so I havent really got much of a routine etc... sometimes I wish that I did have more of a routine..

Having now realised how much I've changed, I know I don't really like the Aussie version of me at all, and having re-discovered my old self over the last couple of months I'm now fighting an uphill battle to bring the British me to Qld!

I changed a lot - far less confident, less exercise, more home-bound lifestyle and hardly ever going out, far worse diet (in fact my diet is virtually non-existent as I rarely eat anything!), and I think I swear more cos its more acceptable. I do make a conscious effort not to use the shortened words though

Re: Do you think you've changed since moving to Australia?
I got much much fatter, despite eating a lot less. Currently feeling smugly slim having had to buy size 16 jeans on this trip hme instead of the size 22 from 2 years ago
I didn't realise how big the difference was until the last 9 months or so, and have been making huge efforts to change since then. I didn't show the unhappiness to people around me either, whch I think is why it took me so long to realise that I had to do something about it. Took a good friend to point some of it out to me - and yes, he is still a good friend in spite of some of the things he pointed out
I think I agree with you on almost all points there Polly! I know I dont laugh as much and whatever difference there is is manifest - my D-I-L commented on how different I was in UK when she came for a visit with me last year. I didnt think my unhappiness was that much on show here, I work very hard at keeping it under wraps.

Maybe alot of metal grinding, then using the whippersnipper, and then maybe hammering things for no apprent reason. Make sure to have a couple barking dogs going constantly too. And some revving engines, shit we don't want any quiet time between metal grinding sesssions.
Then you can become my neighbour.

Re: Do you think you've changed since moving to Australia?
Yes, I got married and had a child so change was a given, but
- I too talk to strangers more - in fact I actually start conversations now and in confined spaces like lifts..
- I also swim more but more out of necessity than choice,
- I am also a better drive (Well, I have a licence now )
- My diet is better although that's because you can't get Linda McCartneys or Quorn here
- Probably about the same amount of time outdoors
- I also use different words although I always swore I wouldn't but it kind of sneaks up on you..
- ALOT more cappuccino
- I am more community minded - Help out your neighbour with their groceries without even giving it a second thought - type of thing. Not that I didn't want to before, just never occured to me - that's more a reflection of your environment than you as a person.
- I don't enjoy shopping as much - not as satisfying
- I realise how difficult it is to live away from loved ones
