Default Do you take your shoes off at home?

Following on from a previous poster being upset at being charged for cleaning a carpet, tell me. I do feel I am unfortunately in the minority here but I take my shoes off whenever I go into a house as it's most unhygienic to do otherwise.

Do you? If not - why not?

Only as we have wooden floors. My father in law is the only exception and, as perviously reported, clumps around in the sort of shoes which provide assistance to the severely cripped and disabled.

Never owned a pair of slippers.

No, we dont.

However I have lived in Eastern Europe and they insist on everyone taking shoes off indoors. Often the locals have spare slippers or flip flops for guests to wear. Highly embarressing at first.

Think it may be something to do with the harsh winters and not wanting crap on their carpets.

Yes. Shoes off at the door. People who leave them on get asked "were you born in a barn?"

Shoes off in this house. Bare feet, thongs, socks or baffies.

Even the tradesmen who come in almost always go to take their shoes off, when they come in. And we have tiled floors downstairs

Actually I don't think the carpet cleaner took his off.... but I may be wrong

If you had floors like the ones in my unit you'd want to keep your shoes on, trust me. Too many splinters to do otherwise.

Oh thats OK then, I always wear odd socks, so I can identify with that. My niece wears odd trainers, drives her mum nuts, and I always get the blame for being a Bad Example!

Why only a house? Surely it's just as unhygienic to wear shoes at work or in any building for that matter?

I change into thongs / flipflops or go bare foot when I get home, but I don't take my shoes off at the front door unless they're wet or muddy. I change in the bedroom into more comfy clothes.
