Did anyone ever watch Carl Sagans 'Cosmos' as a kid? That really started me questioning everything.

He did a thing about dimensions saying 'imagine a species that lives in two dimensions on a piece of paper, they only knew forwards, backwards, left and right. Then you put your finger on the paper. To them your fingertip would have come out of nowhere, you would be a god, you could crush and kill them at will. Now imagine there is a fourth dimension that we don't know about. "

I think I was about 10 years old when I watched that. It was on at dinner time and it was the only programme I was ever allowed to eat watching TV. It has completely messed with my mind ever since, made me question everything about science, god, physics.

Apropos to nothing, I had to write a paper at uni about what 5 dimensional shapes would be like. I got a third for it so don't ask me for the answer.

We don't live on sheets of paper and the only fingers in the sky are called bananas.

I used to play 4 lined noughts and crosses over 4 stacked glass boards.
How many dimensions was that ? 3 ?

Yes, thats because you are not two dimensional... oh hang on... anyway

If I need help because I consider 4 dimensions, think of poor old Worzel above. He had to consider 5.

He didn't do it very well right enough, but hey, its taken me 28 years to get my head around 4.

And you're still struggling with 3

Up and down = 1

Left and right = 2

Fowards and backwards = 3

Time space continuum bollox does not equal 4 and 5 by the way, cos you'd come up with that next.

Well, I could of swore the finger that placed the winning piece in the 3D noughts and crosses was from the fourth dimension.

I was going to add, time is not the fourth dimension. I can't even get my head around what it is (it was part of the question though). It was about this time I realised I had made a terrible mistake choosing Maths as my degree so I swapped it for beer, pool and failing to chat up girls.

The 4th dimension may be found in the head.

Hmmm well..I'll tell you this, when I was in hospital because my baby had stopped moving, I prayed to god for the first..and last time in my life. I'm not at all religious and have never 'believed' but at that moment in time I was desperate and that's all I could think of doing. They whipped him out and all was good

So a little faith won't hurt you no, it can be comforting.

I just think religion is the root of so much...trouble

So has something in particular happened M that's made you feel 'looked after'

If i believed there was someone up there then i guess it would have to be a burglar cos he'd have to be in the loft as we are in a single storey house

I believe Religion is a dangerous thing in the wrong hands, thats why I dont bother with it.But if you do, good luck to you, I know a number of people im close to who derive a huge amount of personal strength from it, and in some respects I can see why. Most people ive met on a personal level who have been into god have been good people , honest and true and very very happy with their 'lot', something i find difficult to achieve.I do find Churches very nice places to be in though, just not the rest of it.
