Do people walk?

Do people walk in Sydney? I know it's a pretty weird question but if I were somewhere more central could I walk everywhere I needed? I have a good walking buggy and walked a lot wherever I lived. I ask also because I live in Dubai at the moment and certain places don't have pavements because walking is for weirdos (why walk when you can drive a HUGE Hummer 50 yards to the supermarket)...people just DON"T do it really unless they are European and then you are considered a bit quaint...
I lived in london (without bubba) and walked everywhere and took public transport (Nottingham too
and found it absolutely fine...
Opinions on if walking is ok, doable and how is public transport living in Centralish (or even Suburban, tho I know I would need transport f not on the links of buses or trains).
Sorry for the previous posts but thought it was better to be specific.
Thanks

Yes, zillions of people walk.
I see loads of people walking to work, walking the dog, walking/running with babies in buggies in the park, walking along the Bondi/Coogee cliff path. I can't think of any street around here (eastern suburbs) that doesn't have a footpath.
I often walk from Coogee to Bondi Junction and both my kids walk to/from the city for fun. It's not like the US where walkers are just not catered for. It's really quite civilised here..

I walk everywhere too - although there are areas here where there are no pavements - that really shocked me when we first arrived. I've now realised that the norm is to just walk on the road, and as the roads are a lot wider its no big deal!
