l can't beleive this guy could get to stay in OZ after what his done , its bad enough he only got 2 years jail. Surely he will be deported after his sentance or am l wrong?

If - as it says in the full article - he is only here studying for a diploma, he is going to be on a temporary visa anyway, so will have to leave at the end of his sentence as his visa will only be valid while he is doing the course.

Could he enrol in another course or find some way to get Permanent residency, l hope not
if he does surely they will deport him for what he did.

I would have extreme doubts that he would even be granted another temp visa, never mind PR.

He's now got a criminal conviction. That will be assessed at the point he applies for PR.

Anyone else find this disturbing? seems to imply that the sentence would have been less if she'd provoked him, I can't see that there can be any provokation for such an attack

Also the Judge said becasue he was " lonely" it was a contributing factor.
Whats being lonely got to do with rape or how does it justify it

Highly unlikely I'd have thought - its a prison sentence, plus they will loo at twhat the offence was. He'd be unlikely to get PR with that recrd in his past, never mind with it so recent AND onshore as well.

I wouldn't be laying any bets on that

He will probably be put in protective custody to protect him from the other prisoners unfortunently

I guess we can only hope that that phrasing was taken out of context... being lonely has nothing to do with raping a child and there is no justification.

Probably just written in to wind everyone up even more...

That isn't always quite as safe as it sounds......even prison guards have feelings and its always possible to be looking the other way at certain times.....
