Question: In the UK if I pop my clogs I believe one would get a payment or something from the government to help towards funeral costs - I'm not sure if that’s still the case though. Anyway my question is therefore is simply does the same happen here..

and tell someone what you arrange.
My dad died, he had a funeral plan, a will, a coffin booked and various other schemes.
he got altzheimers and I ended up paying it all again as it was a very twisted web and you have only so many days to plan a funeral and believe me, working out someone else's cunning plan is not really an option when you are far away from home

I don't believe that the UK government do pay for it anymore. If there is family they look to them to pay. I got stung about 9 years ago when my dad died. I was the only child who had any money and had to pay all the costs - shopped around for the cheapest as I couldn't bear the man.
No they don't - I had to pay my Mums funeral costs when she died as she was on disability, but I worked.
If I had been on benefits they would have paid for it though. Same here as far as I can tell.

The person responsible for arranging the funeral may be eligible for help from Government funds
Whether help is available will depend on the financial status of the responsible person arranging the funeral.
It makes no difference if the deceased was in receipt of benefit.
Awards will not be considered if there is a close relative who could afford to pay for the funeral.
Payments are made from the Social Fund to eligible applicants for up to £2000 towards the funeral costs.

There is something here in Australia, for people who cannot afford to die, but I can't locate the info at the moment, although I do know a case where it happened some years ago.

The UK do still do something, but within limitations:

I did find this for NSW though:
If the deceased person’s family cannot be found, or has no way of paying for a funeral, a ‘destitute funeral’ can be arranged, paid for by the state (see below for further information).
Burial/cremation of people without means
When a person without means dies in a hospital or other public health facility, the hospital must make reasonable attempts to find relatives or friends who may wish to arrange the burial or cremation.
If no one can be found (or no one is willing to pay), the hospital will arrange with a local provider to conduct the funeral and forward the deceased person’s information
If the person dies at home or in a nursing home the funeral is arranged by the police, and if they die in a hospital the funeral is arranged by a social worker.

Ah, I see what you mean.
You see, I shouldn't assume that the OP has family should I?

In the Uk the person who is responsible for paying for the funeral has to be in receipt of a relevant benefit..................and then you will only receive the minimum payment.
