If you are looking at the length of time for these temps, then you are comparing a once in a hundred years Australian weather pattern to a normal British winter, and, well.... it's not a comparison that I would think stands up.
Personally I know what the weather can be like down South, that's why I live up here. Cooler in Summer, warmer in Winter.

People want to feel that they've done the ''right thing'' in moving back or wanting to go back to the UK and part of that, for some, is putting down Australia, to prove to the world that it isn't actually them !! And that last sentence is from my own experience, from doing exactly that when I went through my own anti-Australia stage.

I definitely dont agree with that. How do you cool down when your an outside worker ?
Re your other post re raining in Melbourne, every time you've been here. 80 pct of the time we get Adelaides weather around 30 hours afterwards, its the direction the weather travels here.
So if you had been in Adelaide 30 hours before your visit, there is an 80 pct chance it would have been raining there.
I personally would prefer 4 days of -1 than 4 days of plus 40. There again I've had to work outdoors for 21 years of my time here.

I did outside work here in Adelaide in the last heatwave, and as long as I had a hat and plenty of water and sun screen, I was fine, other than about one hour when I got too hot.
It must depend on what type of person you are. I get cold easy, and even in summer last year was wearing a t shirt, 2 jumpers and a jacket for some out door work, not getting down to the t-shirt until afternoon.
I must have been in one of the 20% for Melbourne then as it had been sunny and lovely when we left Adelaide, we took 4 days to get to Melbourne (raining all but the first). We were watching the weather when we got back and it was still showing as raining in Melbourne, but had been sunny in Adelaide the whole week we had been away. We did have one nice day in Melbourne (luckily on the Neighbours trip day lol).

Personally I can only ever remember getting really cold feet, nose, ears and throat....in the UK, the rest of me seemed to stay pretty warm.
Must be in the Genes PB

Just for your own purposes, keep a background eye on the weather in Melb v Adelaide in the future, there is normally about 3 degrees difference and Melbourne does generally follow on.

I agree. I used to get chillblanes every winter, and the cold always makes me try to find a loo......
No chillblanes in QLD, but sometimes cold enough in winter to need that loo, but no where near as often
I'd rather put up with the heat, than that. Although not sure I would fancy Melbourne or Adelaide at the moment
But others like the cold, actually it isn't in the genes !!! My dad loves rolling in snow in Finland after a sauna
I suppose it could be from my Mums side though.

Daily mean max for Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane ending 29th January 2009 as supplied from the official Australian weather site:
A: 31.3
M: 28.0
S: 27.5
B: 30.2
Daily mean min:
A: 17.6
M: 15.5
S: 19.8
B: 21.3
So eastern Australia has far more warmer nights than the southern states. Daytime temps can vary considerably. Remember just a few days of very high temps doesn't necessarily mean it's the hottest place as judging by the average maximums, Brisbane hasn't exceeded 33.9oC yet has the second - highest mean max out of all four cities and is considerably higher than Melbourne by around 2 degrees.

Oops! Made a wee mistake, Brisbane is actually behind Adelaide's by one degree but before the heatwave, Adelaide was averaging 29.5oC.

But remember the weathers the same as the UK in Melly
And everyone says how 'lovely' it is. Cor - love a duck. My old man's a dustman.
