The odds are that it will be rejected again: Every decade WA gets a referendum, and each time it is voted down. 1978 53.66% against, 1984 54.35% against, 1992 53.14% against. 2009 ? It will be interesting to see |

I can understand that but ordinarily our family can't take full advantage. School nights are too busy or husband has to be in bed early for early work start. It was still quite dark at 6am this morning. That is just no good for me. I know most folk aren't up at 6 but I am and I don't like it dark. I have plenty of outdoor lighting so can still manage to potter about outside in the evening. Each to their own I guess.

Re: for crying out loud!
see your Brisbane arent you? cannot get over how dark it is at 5pm over there, sure WA wasnt the same! If we had a vote, we would each vote differently, and cancel each other out  Sunset tonight was 6:45pm here in Brisbane. A 1 hour saving would make it 7:45. I would like a 3 hour difference, and make it 9:45pm  , but then it wouldn't get light till 8:30 in the morning, which would be a killer for all those who start work at 6-7am. In the end though, it is down to the majority. |
Re: for crying out loud!
I am not fussed either way really. I will probably vote Yes but only because I think it is better for business to be only 2 hours away from the eastern states.

Re: for crying out loud!
Well its dark now in the mornings when I get up so it will still be dark when they change the clocks back...................

Re: for crying out loud!
Im glad they aint got it in Queensland. Had enough of the heat by 7.00pm in the summer. Glad it goes dark then. Why would you want another hour of it

Re: for crying out loud!
I quite like not having saylight savings here in Brisbane.
As it is on warm days I get up at early about 28C in the morning and head home at a still sweltering 35C and within an hour or so its dropped to below 30C and I cna go out and walk the dog.... I would hate to have to wait longer at home in the evenings before its cool enough to go out! :p The cruxz of the matter is whats more important saving 'daylight' or saving 'cool air'? I'd bet that there'd be a few of us who'd happily vote for 'CST' (Coolness Savings Time) where clocks are pulled in the other direction over the summer to ensure the sun sets sooner and we can get out more!!! (It'd also be easier for the old folks back home to work out what the time difference was if our clocks moved in the same direction as theirs!!!!) :D |

Re: for crying out loud!
Perhaps the answer for them up in Bender-Country is to adopt the old Japanese timekeeping system, where they had varying units of time throughout the year! Six units of daylight and six of darkness.
Another niche market for Seiko <g> http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Japanese_clock |

Re: for crying out loud!
The question to be asked is:
``Are you in favour of daylight saving being introduced in Western Australia by standard time in the state being advanced one hour from the last Sunday in October 2009 until the last Sunday in March 2010 and in similar fashion for each following year?'' Where do you pause for breath:rofl: |

Many Queenslanders still use that as an argument, and believe it. ....
Heres the facts: 1) With DST you get more light in the EVENING not MORNING 2) Curtains fade more when they are closed (and therefore exposed to more UV) 3) You're more likely to leave your curtains closed in the early morning before you get up (thus exposing them unnecessarily to UV) than you are to close them as before the sun drops in the early evening. Combine 1) 2) and 3) and the logic follows that curtains MUST fade less if you have DST. :D:D:D |

Re: for crying out loud!
When I lived in Perth, I was obviously so very not posh - we had newspaper up at the windows.... well, it was a new build ... but I left the curtains closed in the one bedroom where we had curtains - it kept the heat out during the day.
I still do it over here - to keep the heat in as the temperature is 0.5 above this morning and thick frost everywhere..... ETA: I'm in London, obviously :)) |
