crossbreed dogs such as labradoodles - good or bad?
Not being a dog lover myself (though I do admit that I enjoy playing with other people's dogs and I can understand why folks love 'em), I always thought that when you cross breeds, you end up with a "mongrel".
But more and more nowadays I am seeing these new-fangled labradoodles. Which, I assume, are a cross between a labrador and a poodle.
So my questions are as follows: Is the labradoodle a mongrel or a new "breed"? Is it a freak of nature? Is it bad to own a labradoodle?
But most importantly, are there any other cross breeds out there, with equally amusing names? e.g. is there such a thing as a sheep bull terrier?

The real freaks of nature are things like mules and ligers

Most pedigrees are man-made and are therefore themselves freaks of nature. There's some excellent declared pedigrees which are themselves derived from different mixes of other pedigrees. The Rhodesian Ridgeback is one.

Cocker Spaniel and a poodle - Cockapoo
Poodle with a cocker spaniel - Spandoodle
Something to do with the breed of the male as to whether it is Spandoodle or a Cockapoo!

We have a labradoodle ,best dog we've ever had,she is so smart its unreal, she's almost human..lol..and best of all no dog hair to worry about, but we do have to have her clipped now and then.
If your thinking about getting a dog, then i would seriously look at a labradoodle, with the hot weather here you dont want to be vacuuming every 5 minutes.
Hope this helps

I think labradooles were created for the blind due to the fact they don't shed there hair as much but are still very intelligent dogs. I am not sure about that fact as I work for the deaf society, and was told this by one of our deaf/blind clients who has one.

No dog hair definitely sounds like a bonus.
Don't know why I've suddenly become interested in this topic. But on the offchance that anyone else is interested, this website lists all the breeds of dogs.... I didn't know there were so many....
