Or were you talking about cricket?

That's not saying much about those participating in the womens Ashes. They don't even like penis.

Rules ? Tactics?

Rules:

Cricket Rules | The rules of the greatest game of all is a pretty good quick guide to the rules - though there are a lot of technicalities and details behind the basics.

How to Get Out in Cricket

There's also this old chestnut which gets trotted out often - Cricket: As explained to a foreigner...

You have two sides, one out in the field and one in. Each man that's in the side that's in goes out, and when he's out he comes in and the next man goes in until he's out. When they are all out, the side that's out comes in and the side that's been in goes out and tries to get those coming in, out. Sometimes you get men still in and not out.
When a man goes out to go in, the men who are out try to get him out, and when he is out he goes in and the next man in goes out and goes in. There are two men called umpires who stay out all the time and they decide when the men who are in are out. When both sides have been in and all the men have been out, and both sides have been out twice after all the men have been in, including those who are not out, that is the end of the game

:lol::sneaky:

Tactics:

A whole different ball game :sneaky: and they vary depending on whether its a Test Match, One Day, 20/20 or whatever. I'm not even going to begin to talk tactics on here as the experts will rip me to shreds!
A 20/20 game by the way is where each team is limited to 20 overs (5 balls bowled in each over). Makes for a fast fun game - and because its quite short its good for evening viewing, for instance. We used to go to games at Hove as a post-work outing!

This is all riveting, (turn on the BBC radio, you'll get a better insight) and as much as I am a fan of Warne's cricketing brain, lets ask him one question. If it was all about poor batting by Australia, why did England never score 800 in a test like we should see in a 5 day test? You know the answer sits with bowler prepped pitches. When both sides aren't getting close to 800 (bar Lords) the only way you will see the 800's and 5 day tests is to make them more batter friendly.

Have England actually hit the right areas before lunch? Have they made Australia play consistently. I think you know the answer is no.

So as we come full circle in this discussion, and like in a science project conclusion, here we have it. Australia have been swinging it all series and haven't hit the mark therefore haven't taken the wickets like England have. England have been far more consistent hitting the spot. This morning is a perfect example of what happens when you don't use the perfect line and length with conditions that assist.

The end. Thanks for your time :)

Pathetic honestly. You make a statement about the pitches causing tests to be shorter and because you didn't quote me when saying it it is not up for any scrutiny or because you said it it must be right.

You would rather listen to someone telling you what's happening than watch what is happening and hear commentary?

What happened this morning is that the batsmen also applied themselves in a test-like manner. No-one was preventing Broad etc from bowling the perfect line - sometimes you do, sometimes you don't. Warne, like myself was making the point that batting also has something to do with the outcome of a match.

Well that just about sums it up then doesn't it. What I've been saying all along as we come full circle. I knew eventually you'd come round to my way of thinking. Its been a pleasure teaching you :)

I don't know how you came to that conclusion.

3/237. Purely because England hasn't bowled as well? What does Mr Vaughan tell you on the radio?

I've got a question for you. If a test goes 5 days, we should be looking at about 1500 runs scored in the match. 750+ for the winners. If pitches have nothing to do with it, and its all about the bad influence of the short game, can you explain why England have got no where near this mark, anywhere in this series, playing with a pretty low batting strike rate?

Cos they only let us bat til we've won, not til we've got 750+, try setting us more than 60 next time :p

Simple answer. I was trying to challenge my sporting friend. Lets live outside the bandwagon box a bit.

Trouble is, this test looks like it may blow your argument out of the water. It's nice to see our bowlers challenged, they'll be challenged a lot more in future tests, so they'll need to get used to it.

To be honest I'm quite happy in the supporter box, I don't believe in over analysing games, I'm far happier taking the piss and singing ;)

Your bowlers haven't hit the right line and length in this test. Bit like ours in all the others :)

Have you been reading what I've been saying? The proliferation of the one day form of the game has affected how batsmen play in Test matches.

I have no idea why you are peddling this 1,500 score. Try an Ashes test series 20 years ago; match aggregate runs for both teams 1st 1,164, 2nd 903, 3rd 1,024, 4th 1,256 and 5th 1,165 - average 1,100 per game.

Now I'll say this slowly for the last time. I am NOT saying pitches don't affect results; I AM saying that the much shorter duration of test matches is not mainly due to pitches but is due to the influence of the increasing amount of T20's and 50 over matches. I am also talking of all test match cricket these days, not just Ashes - they will only go into the 5th day usually if there is bad weather because batsmen have lost the art generally of constructing a lengthy, patient innings. The public want crash, bang, wallop as they have shorter attention spans than my generation.;)

You believe batsmen don't last as long or score as many because of the supposedly unplayable wickets, I don't. Another factor to consider Sherlock is that when test matches used to go 5 days the pitches were not covered as they are now - slightest bit of rain, umpires off, covers on in moments.

nicely changed to bandwagon, good grief. Over analyse all you like, you're only making one person look foolish

well done Smithy, I can see him being a decent captain, I may even support Australia against any team that's not England.

Personally, I prefer beach cricket. No dress code, you can bribe the umpire with a stubby, and when you've had enough you can tell everyone to piss off then go for a swim.
