I don't know why the tourist money doesn't go to the real folk. It did every time we holidayed down that way. Stayed local, shopped local, bought local etc.
When much of the local money comes from tourism, and there's little local industry other than that, then it seems rather like shooting yourself in the foot.

Cornwall, the place of high unemployment and very low wages.
Not so long ago it was declared an area of poverty by the EU.
Highest water rates in the country.....have to pay to clean sweep the visitors turds from the beaches you see.
High prices generally. Even food that is grown locally is often more expensive than in the cities. How can that be ffs ?
Majority of holiday industry money does not stay in Cornwall. Ownership of accomodation, resorts, businesses etc is often non Cornish.
Walk through the busy streets in winter - half the houses are deserted - holiday homes.
Misguided pricks have their targetting all wrong.
Should be blowin the ******g bridges.

Heard on the news federal police are trying to locate the Australian fundraising arm of the organisation. Seems Queensland is where they are concentrating their search on. Bank a/c's with a total of 47cents have been sized. Suspect is not to be approached. Not that he is dangerous or anything just he is not to be approached.
They are currently going through his computer and shifting through 15000 + posts he has made. Top code breakers have been brought in as the posts ,made on a well known forum for expats, make no sense at all. The believe they are dealing with either a genius or a complete headcase. they are erring on the latter at the moment.

Biggest industry is the kaolin mining.....but the now French owners have decimated it in recent years. Closing it down quicker than lightening.
Nothing wrong with the quality but taking out capacity and forcing customers to buy from Brasil. Coincidentally the Brasilian deposit is also owned by the French.....but labour is cheap so profits much higher......heard that one before ? Global free trade my arse.
Workforce of about 12000 when I started with them.....by end this year will drop to about 1000.
