Competition to buy a house in Sydney right now!
Ok so we have finally reached the point where we are comfortable enough to buy our own place and say goodbye to renting
Haven't been looking long but we do the usual thing of getting alerts for new properties.
The problem is we are not even getting as far as the viewings! The three houses we were going to view came on the market with a open house viewing to come the following weekend and all sold within 2 days and the viewing cancelled, those that purchased bought sight unseen No doubt investors that don't really care all that much so long as they can get a renter in. I thought that maybe the current renters might be buying but at least one of them was an empty house.
So is this what it has come to, to get on the property ladder in Sydney you have to jump in with an offer straight away when the add flashes up and hope it is a good un?
Not looking in a particularly trendy area either, basically from North Parrmatta towards Epping way, although Epping is pricey.
O well, as I say haven't been looking long, hopefully we can get to the viewing stage soon I knew it would be very competitive but I didn't think we would have an issue just trying to view a place.

Have you been to the estate agents yet? They can sometimes get you in to look before the property has officially come on the market.
Good luck.
Good luck.

Arrange an appointment to see it before then. That's what we did, if the estate agent tells you that it's only by open house, tell them you're out of town that day (or any other lie you can come up with)

Also .... if you can afford say $700,000. Best searching for the properties at $600,000. Agents aren't pricing the properties correctly and those $700,000 are going for $800,000.
You don't want to waste your time and money getting surveys done, turning up to auctions and seeing the old grey haired super fund people or the random Chinaman scuttling your dreams.

Housing market is going nuts again in Sydney at the moment. A normal suburban house in Eastwood (large corner block in) sold for over $2.5 million, nothing special about that house, just because it was on a corner block, insane.
We are pretty relexed about it all actually, have built a very good deposit which continues to grow, we don't feel like we are wasting money on rent as we are saving money.
If we were renting but all of our spare cash was going on bills and rent and we weren't saving anything then that would be a totally different story.
As it is we are content enough but would just like to get that first house in Australia.
