We put loose change into one of those big old whisky bottles that used to be in pubs (MIL worked in a raffa club) and when it is about half full sort the coins into bags and put them in the bank. I didn't know the bank would do all the hard work for you- mind you this is Sydney, so it might be different here.
She said it was fine just to bring in as a bulk coin (there isn't a coin counter out front, they do it for you) - she did say that if you brought it in at 4.45pm on a Friday, that you would be tied up and killed slowly over the weekend. I *think* she was joking. |

Re: Coin Jar
I'd like to have a coin jar but being the parent of theiving bastard teenagers it gets raided regularly. :frown: Did I mention my teenagers are theiving bastards? Well, technically only one is a bastard since we got married shortly after her birth, but you know what I mean.

If you were in the queue in front of me, I'd do it myself . . .
As a seasoned subpostmistress of many years, we always used to get old dears (and young dears) turn up at 5.15pm on a Wednesday with a coin jar full of hairy, smelly coins. I'm sure I'm due getting my own back. |

Re: Coin Jar
I used to get DD to count the coins from her piggy bank when she was younger, then the money would go into her building society account- the only trouble is she was not really accurate, so I had to redo it all.
As I am allergic to nickel, I had to put gloves on!!! |
Re: Coin Jar
A friend gave us the tip of saving $2 coins in particular - i.e. never spend them, just put thme in a coin tin - one you need a can opener to open. After a year I took them into our local ANZ and had $800!

Re: Coin Jar
My Hublet (wifelet/hublet thing going on in our house :o) has an old cottees cordial bottle and he collects gold coins... MY gold coins... because like the queen he doesn't appear to carry cash! He rifles through my purse for them when we've been out. Admittedly he does replace the coins with notes - not always the IOU variety;). So now I have this game, when I see him watching the coins being handed over to me, I make a point of spending them in the next shop :D it livens up otherwise boring shopping trips :D:lol:
