My understanding is that they have to be received and logged by the AEC by a certain date (I think the Friday before the election). Any postal votes received after this date are discarded

The local news said postal votes were accepted up until tomorrow:confused:

Postal votes need to be received by the AEC within 13 days after the election day - reference.

I don't know if its just me, or a general migrant thing, but I find myself completely detached from the politcal process here... I didn't give a stuff who won and really didn't pay much/any attention to it all.

The only things I remember from the campaign are Ja'mie Dyaz and 'Islam is a country' woman. Didn't watch any debates, didn't read any junk mail - couldn't bear to really.

never really interested at home, but here I feel even more detatched from it, all seems a lot of hot air spoken by people who really should keep their mouths shut :D

I was detached in earlier elections but this time round I've got several years of reading the papers so know the history and background - so it was easier to form a viewpoint or 'interest'.

Yeah, but I've been here nearly eight years as well and the most I could muster up was "meh".

It always seems like Hobson's choice, and given that Parliamentary democracy doesn't seem to work any more, I really can't see much point in taking part any further.

Yup - twas a choice between two fluckwits so not much in it this time. The one that won didn't even get a hard time about not having a firm budget and clear policies in place:unsure:

Must have won because of the budgie smugglers:eek:

The Australian press should be ashamed of themselves for the way that they conducted this election coverage. Abbott didn't get any hard questions about anything, and the Murdoch press in particular ran an unashamedly pro Aboott campaign, though we all know why this was.

There was very little objectivity.
