Climbing Mount Warning
#1
Last Sunday my hubby and I got up at 2.30 am, drove to NSW and at 4am started climbing Mount Warning to watch the sunrise.
Before I share with you how this went I would like to know if any of you have done this and hear how it went for you.

This has caught my eye and I'm intrigued. Unfortunately (or fortunately), I'm off out for the evening for the first time in many months, so I'll have to wait till later and hope you have spilled the beans!!!

Ok here goes.
The day started with getting up at 2.30 am: (which totally confused the dogs) and heading off into NSW.
The night sky was clear and the stars were bright. Perfect we thought.
Arrived at Mount Warning and started to climb about 4.15am. As it was pitch dark this all had to be done by torches.
Anyway, first 100 metres were great as it is a nice concrete path. Piece of cake I thought:
THEN
4 kms of the hardest exercise I have ever done......no path just a rocky track which climbs very quickly.
As we were climbing up I start to notice that I could no longer see the stars. Mentioned this to hubby who assured me that it was just a bit of cloud cover, nothing to worry about.
By the time we get to the chain...... (Oh yes, the last part of the climb is up a rock face pulling yourself up using a chain) I was absolutely knackered and guess what....
IT WAS RAINING :curse:
By this time it was 5.50 and sunrise was at 6 so I said Bu**er this I am gonna make it to the top. We got there just as the sun came up...although all we could see was an orange tinge through the rain and the cloud.
We decided not to open the bottle of champagne we had taken up with us and so walked over to the chain to start our descent.
Well by this time it had been raining for a while which made the rocks and the chain very slippery. As you have to go down backwards it was quite a frightening ordeal but by 6.45 we were back at the car...Filthy dirty, soaking wet, tired but ecstatic. We had done it.
8.2 kms
We then went home, had a shower and by 10am had drunk the entire bottle of bubbly.
I will definitely do it again. I will however wait until I am fitter (although I thought I already was) AND ALSO TILL I KNOW IT WILL NOT RAIN AND I WILL SEE THE FLAMING SUN COME UP.
If you get the chance give it a go !

Sounds like you have the same amount of luck as me with the weather!
Good for you though, its certainly a steep climb - well it looks like it from the Nimbin area, which is about as close as I'm gonna get to it
Take the camera next time so you can share the view with us.
May be wise not to drink the champagne at the top anyway - you could come down a lot quicker than you want

However the walk was closed and we only got to see the bottom area (ie concrete path area)
We had been in Australia about 2 weeks, when in a small town the local rag stated that they had had more rain in the last 2wks than the last 2yrs. Great for locals water tanks, crap for a holiday.
Now with two little uns (one who can't even crawl), it is going to be some time before we are able to do that.
Glad you had a great time. Hopefully next time you will be rewarded with a fantastic sunrise.

Hubby stopped the boat and we checked out the damage.
Every one of the 4 prop blades was knackered and the blade under the prop looked like it had been munched on by a shark.
We had to call Volunteer Marine Rescue to tow us back to Jabaroo Island where the car and trailer was and we finally got home at 7pm
Anyway yesterday we called the insurance company and hubby took the boat off to get a quote..... just waiting to hear
So this weekend we are staying at home and finishing our new deck.

Oh well... last weekend we went to the Logan River on our boat. Coming back towards the main channel we hit an underwater rock.
Hubby stopped the boat and we checked out the damage.

From: napier, NZ back to Freo in 2008!

Cue: More silly photos, looking through the telescope and a very fond memory of one of the things that didnt quite go the way it was intended.
