Default A classic statement from Howard

Latest statement by our eminent Mr Howard, heard on TV just now:

"i don't think that the many temporary residents who are taking out citizenship, need any help from outside organisations in order to do so. "

Am I missing something? When did they change the law so that temporary residents could become citizens?

Well, I suppose even a PR visa isn't permanent after five years, if you leave without all the right paperwork. But the you wouldn't be a resident would you, if you'd left?

What was he talking about anyway? (or was that a stupid question?!)
Are some people suggesting that there should be more help for people taking out citizenship?

I didn't hear all of it, Bloke was channel-hopping, but it was something to do with the power of unions, and whether they should be helping "temporary residents" to get "citizenship".
Easy enough for the lay-person to get muddled with the 5 year PR thing and all the rest of it, but you'd think that Howard would get the terminology right....wouldn't you?

Well you know he's probably never done it!
Perhaps they should get some immigrant person to be looking at all that policy instead, someone who actually has a vague idea what they're talking about?

(But then I also think that teachers should run education and soldiers run the defense ministry, etc etc - I never fail to be amazed at the way politicians can just hop from one area of expertise to another overnight.)

Think it's something to do with the miners union trying to get citizenship for people so they can then vote against the incumbents in the forthcoming general election...
