Re: Clarkson
He reminds me a bit of my dad- only more vulgar. No excuse for hitting someone. I think he has become too full of himself recently. I liked Top Gear in the earlier days before it tried too hard to play for shock/laughs and became rather stereotypical.
Perhaps it is the wake up call the series needed.

I'd love to see Ant & Dec get caught at a swingers club. It could do wonders for their image

Re: Clarkson
I think the BBC has a lot to answer for, none of the programmes are live so if they don't like what he says then cut that bit. I'm sure he is not the one that organises the number plates for the cars and the other thing that caught him out last year wasn't even going to be in any show - so BBC take some responsibility for what you air
The other incident was him using the word "nigger" in a classic childrens nursery rhyme and, to be fair, I'd always recited the rhyme with the nigger reference without giving it a second thought. I blame my parents...and the Americans for their resentment around the use of the word nigger. I have read somewhere since however that the original versions of the nursery rhyme actually used 'niger' referring to the Latin word for black (which is where the country and river get their name from, the term nigger is actually of the same derivation but via Portuguese I'm informed).
ETA: It always interested me that Top Gear could be sold so widely as many of the jokes rely on subtle turns of language and it seems improbable that "pork sword" or "gentlemen's vegetables" work as a euphemisms in other languages or that the audience are aware Ross-on-Wye is in rural England. It must keep a team of translators in business trying to convey what is being said.

Re: Clarkson
The numberplates came with the car, if they had de-registered and re-registered the car with new plates it would show as being re-registered. So either they hunted long and hard for a used car with with a set of numbers vaguely referring to the Falklands or did just buy it with those plates without thinking twice. I'm sure lots of people are driving around in cars with plates that could be interpreted as offensive in one way or another by applying abstractions of logic.

Re: Clarkson
I'm quite ambivalent towards him ( even as a cyclist). I like TG a lot, used to watch it back in the Steve Parrish days as I used to race 600 proddie. The 'new' TG was just what the show needed really. Clarkson is a prize plonker, and as with Caroline, reminded me of my Dad, not the good bits!
out of the other two I like May better than Hammond, but neither of them press my 'dislike button'. I reckon an evening in the pub with James May and Prof Brian Cox would be pretty cool.
I think if I was JC, I'd feel a bit entitled as well. Top Gear was dying like a 2CV up Hardknott Pass when he decided to put everything he owned on the line to aquire the rights and set up the production company. I thought he was still at the helm so was surprised he could even be suspended from 'his own show' but I see he sold out his interests to the BBC in 2012.
If I had taken that gamble with the family home and finances and built it into a £13m fortune and had a contract of £1m pa plus Rev share dividend, I don't think I'd particularly give a toss what people thought.
Clarkson, for all his faults, didn't get to that point by sticking it on a horse or employing some whiz kids to write the next Facebook. He did it by turning something boring into a global hit by putting his personality out there as the main focus.
The cars and locations help, but that comes later. None of the Super Brands are lining up to throw their product at anyone else with nearly as much success. I admire Clarkson for recognising the ingredients needed and baking a pretty decent cake.
'It's true he's a prize twat, but it's also true that he knows exactly what he's doing. If the BBC can the show, others will pick it up. I doubt it will be the same but I doubt any of that trio will care at this point in their careers.

Re: Clarkson
Is TG Australia still going? That was bloody woeful.

Re: Clarkson
Sometimes he makes me laugh, sometimes I think he's a total dick. However this current nonsense is beyond ridiculous. He's an entertainer on a light entertainment show. It's not important in any way shape or form.

Re: Clarkson
It thankfully died. The format doesn't work without the original presenters and dubious "humour". Like 'em or hate 'em they make it. Better than some bland middle of the road fodder some might say.
Stick it to the Argies one more time, why not?
Simon Weston to be the new presenter!

Well a new Mexican restaurant opened recently up here & we decided to visit said eatery last night. I can now confirm that yes vomit covered in cheese is an accurate description of Mexican food. Oh & the flatulence bit is bang on as well
