Citizenship test - does anyone fail?

Got my citizenship test coming up, and have tried to learn the answers. Any hints and tips or is it a straightforward multi choice and then you're away?
If you don't get the pass mark can you retake on the day? It says you 'might be able to'

The "snapshot" report on this page of the Citizenship website has some stats about this.

Unless they are really busy you can retake it straight away - did mine in Brisbane, there were only three of us there and we were told it could be done again on the day if necessary :)

Why? I've got an app on my iphone with the questions and have not got the required 75% on all occasions (and have to say my ozzie mates do far worse than me)

Yes, people do fail. If English is not your first language or you haven't studied for the test it's possible. But as Polly says, you can usually take another test straight away.

I failed it

They gave me a New Zealand passport as a consolation prize though

I agree unless of course English isn't your first language. Both husband and I got 100%, it isn't rocket science if you read the book.

You are not supposed to get the lobotomy done until after you pass the test.

Just learn the mandatory ones. Be aware that you have to give up other citzenships if you want to be a member of govenment etc. Others you can guess if know rough dates, how many states etc.

I only read the first part of the citizenship book, on which the test is based. Didn't bother looking at the rest of the book - just no point in doing so.

I got 95% after struggling with a strangely worded question. My hubby got 100% and is bragging big time. But 45 mins to answer the questions? In and out of there in 5! :D

For what it is worth, the one that catches out most Aussies (and me) is that EACH state has its own constitution. :)

Having done the test, the report only serves to confirm my opinion that the test is basically an english language comprehension test.

Interesting that for the 2009-2010 year, 6 poms failed the test.

Come on, own up - who was it?

Cheers

Bullshit - I passed it but my wife failed purely on a mandatory question about whether you have to renounce foreign citizenship to stand for parliament. She walked out, walked back in again and passed it 10 mins later.

Haven't been mandatory questions on the test for over 2 years now.

Download and print off the pages of the book that are relevant to the test. It takes about an hour to read and is very, very basic.

If you revise there is no reason you won't get 100% unless (as others have said) English is not your first language.

The booklet is a good read if only because it's so funny.;)
