Hello,
we are looking to go to oz next year not really sure when is their a cheaper time in the year to fly over or is it much of a muchness to get there? we were thinking about flying to brisbane and then driving to melbourne, could you get your flight back from melbourne or would it be better and cheaper to get back up to brisbane?
thanks

I would think that most airlines will let you fly into Brisbane and out of Melbourne. Are you sure you want to drive from Brisbane to Melbourne? It will take you at least 2 days! You may be able to get cheap flights from Jetstar or Virgin Blue for that journey.

hi suni&jay,
thanks for that. we thought we would drive down to get an idea of all the places on the way as it is either these areas that we would potentially move to. and we thought it might be fun!! we plan to be over in oz for three weeks. a few in brisbane, and melbourne and then take our time driving down.
out of interest how long does it take to fly from brisbane - melbourne?
thanks

I don't know how you would go about hiring a car in Queensland and Leaving it Victoria?, you would need to speak to the carhire company.
I would think that if you are stopping off at place's on your way down to Mel, you made need a 5days/week just for that, as Sydney is on the way and I'm sure you would want to spend 1 or 2 days there.
I don't think people realise just how big oz is and the distances between each place. Our friend came to stay at xmas and she wanted to go to the great barrier reef and I said yeah no probs, until we found out how far is was, looks so close on the map!.

thanks buzzy bee, we were thinking about april next year so that will fit in with what you say, the world of booking flights now a days is so much more long winded now you have thousands of web sites, the days of popping in for the best deal in the travel agent are long gone!!

We did exactly that on our first reccy. We flew into Brisbane spent few days at Tangalooma on Moreton Island for the beach and dolphin experience then took 2 weeks to get to Melbourne via sydney. Gold coast - coffs harbour - inland to look at the hinterland then down Canberra down to the ocean road and double back to Melbourne. We have now settled on Brisbane / gold coast to move to this year!!

I can thoroughly recommend Travelmood (www.travelmood.com) - I have booked with them for 12 years now, they were the only ones that could find us the one-way routing we wanted. Our requirements were at least 2 stopovers, one in Honolulu, one on the East Coast of the US. We now have a routing London - Miami - Cancun - Los Angeles - Honolulu - Melbourne. No-one else was creative enough to find this solution.
