Default Cheap Ski Weekend

Any recommendations for a cheap ski w/e in Aus/NZ?

Mrs Generali's birthday is in July and she's expressed an interest in going.

Do you mean no skiing or not cheap?

There is plenty of skiing but I don't know the cost.....I suppose the cost depends on how close you live to a ski field and whether you need to pay for accommodation.

I took the boss to a little day field a few hours from Melbourne - Baw Baw. I left her with the ski instructor - (trusting man I am) and headed up a hill and came down in a few turns. I asked the liftie where the 'mountain' was and was told that was it!

One of these days we will get to the Alpine resorts proper - I saw the turnoffs off the Hume driving home on Saturday.

No such thing as a "Cheap Ski Weekend"...which is what the original poster asked.

We have done day trips in Vic and a couple of long weekends...all cost a fortune. Lift passes are pricy, as is entry to mountain.

Quality of skiing (here in Vic) varies hugely depending on the year/weather around the time you go.
I have been told it is better value to go for a week to NZ, as snow is more or less guaranteed, but that is only hearsay.

Cheap is relative I realise. What I'm after is the cheaper options.

Kiwiland is an interesting one. A mate lives over there so we could combine things.

The only decent skiing in the southern hemisphere is in New Zealand altough the runs tend to be short and sharp.

I am going to Japan next ski season which is supposed to be more like European/ North American skiing.
