Re: The Census
People not in the country are to be counted through using their passenger exit cards (according to the census site) - caused great hilarity when I read this out at work as I have been filling those in as 'leaving permanently' since 2004, and it turns out most other people write rubbish on them too

Re: The Census
Interestingly they have admitted that "more than two million forms had been successfully submitted and stored before the website crashed".
Only 2 million....
Now, given a million or two paper submissions and submissions not on the night, that still means 6 million people trying to hit the site after 7pm. Rather makes a mockery of their planning for "1 million per hour".
Forget these invisible 'overseas' DDoSers, they got DDoSed by the Australian public, because they were dumb.

My guess is Friday - with the instruction that it can be done 'over the weekend' - and hopefully spread out that 6million people.

Re: The Census
Would YOU want to be the one say it was working and wouldn't fall over again? There's an understandable reticence to put your head on the block and say "it's all OK". In previous examples it's been MONTHS till remedial action is taken and the site put back up - this time they don't have that luxury.

I see it went back up this afternoon and I was even able to submit mine 15 mins ago. Took a while to do and is very repetitive for two sprogs, the wench and I, but job done!
