I'm looking for a cheap car. I have spotted this on FB. It certainly fits the 'cheap' criteria, plus big enough for kids, equipment etc. Could anyone even speculate as to what the problem might be, and potentially how much I might have to spend to get it up to scratch?

FWIW we've been Honda for decades (except I've just bought a different new car) - fantastic engineering, excellent construction and until recently good looking cars. (The newer ones have gone all psychotic, taking the Lexus line.)

I agree, Honda has a great reputation. And Toyota too - at least historically.

All the main Japanese brands are pretty reliable. I think I read recently that Mitsubishi is rated as the most reliable in Australia

Local mechanic recommends a Lancer to replace the Pulsar when it eventually dies.
It will go well with our year old Triton which is going great.

Ye, get rid of the old banger and buy yourself a proper car.
