Default The Car Ownership History Thread

For no good reason at all really ...

My 15 year car history list just for the hell of it:

- Talbot Sunbeam (written off in traffic oggling schoolgirls)

- Talbot Alpine (just died ... leccy windows AND sunroof though)

- Triumph Dolomite (pensioned off, dodgy exhaust manifold)

- Mark 1 Vauxhall Astra (dodgy head gasket)

- Peugeot 309Gti (tweaked to the nth degree and it went bang)

- Rover 216 (company car ... horrible thing)

- Rover 416 (company car to replace the 216 ... still horrible)

- Vauxhall Vectra (company car ... nastier than the Rovers)

- Nissan 200SX (looooooovely ... but the gearbox was on the way out)

- Audi Quattro (solid but not overly reliable)

- Renault 21 Turbo (fast, French and fragile ... head gasket went)

- Another Renault 21 Turbo (faster but I wrote it off in a double roll ...)

- Another Audi Quattro (solid but not overly reliable ... a pattern here)

- Mazda MX-5 (my best car EVER ... sold due to quitting job, selling flat and moving to dodgy area)

- Saab 9000 (great car but on it's last legs, got me to, around and back from Ireland though)

- Volvo 590(?) Turbo (my pre-emigration car, nasty but effective)

Better than a car a year, can anyone beat that?

I've had a 95 Renault Megane in the UK and a 92 Holden Barina here - not bad for someone who can't drive yet

Dunno, I hated that car and we only had it 3 months. My husbands bright idea that we needed some big estate car when we had our eldest daughter and traded in my prized BMW for that heep of swedish crap! Can you tell I have issues about that.

I had a clapped out Yugo when I first passed ...it was red, and looked like a Noddy Car

I then had an old Astra while I was doing my Nurse training ...it was a star - the drivers wing mirror was held on by Micropore (tape used to secure dressings) for 2 years

Then I had a new Daewoo Lanos - which was heavy and sluggish

Then I had a Fiat Punto...which was great, but a bit small.

The last car I had in the UK was a new Toyota Celica Sportspack...which I adored - it was dark blue, sexy and very fast.

Came here and had a Lancer, which a very mistakenly sold for a 4X4 which I didn't have time to use fully, and I don't thing they are worth having unless you are going to do loads of off-road - we'll hire one when we need one.
I now own a 17 year old Ford Fairmont ...which is bloody brilliant.

Austin Metro 1.0 City (limped to garage for trade in with carburation problems 90,000 miles on the clock)
Vauxhall Astra Belmont 1.4 (forget the name but it meant had nothing above standard - limped to garage for trade in with carburation problems 90,000 miles on the clock - is it my driving style? Tight arse won't change cars until I have to)
Rover 400 1.6i (great car to drive but shocking build quality (limped to garage for trade in with carburation problems 60,000 miles on the clock - are you getting a theme here? Crap build meant it packed up before the others)
Ford Focus 1.6i Zetec (seriously good little car - sold 5 days before emigration)
Mazda 3 Maxx (even better car but probably a mistake given it only goes to and from the station) Will probably use this rather than the old Rav4 to trade in for perhaps a new Sorrento or 3/4 year old Pajero.

I am runnning the risk of having the p!ss taken out of me but here goes...!

1st car - my dream car - Fiat Cinquecento (!!) Poor old thing had to be sold off for parts on ebay, as I accidentally run out of petrol one day, which had a major impact on the running of the car...! It was like a horror movie - I put my foot down to go, & I just literally rolled around a major roundabout - my whole life flashed before me !!! pmsl !! The petrol thing amongst some other things would have worked out more than what I paid for the beast, so I had to bid her farewell.... sad story really !! RIP the Cinqy !! (never did learn how to park it between 2 cars either !!)

Currently have an Excel, good reliable runabout, but eyeing up the Toyota Echos/Yaris that are over here... When I say eyeing up - what I mean is trying to persuade the OH - I mean you'd think I had expensive taste or something wouldn't ya ??!!

My first car was a V reg Lada Mind you it had a sunroof (used to call it a skip)
Bought for 300 pounds and sold it 12 months later for 325 (not bad eh - OH was a mechanic / body man)
Ford fiesta pop 1.1
Ford Fiesta 1.3
Metro 1.3
Fiesta XR2
Escort XR3
Nissan Micra auto
All of the above I drove for 12 months or more and sold them for more than I bought them for
Vauxhall Vectra (hated it)
Citroen Picasso (loved it to bits and is about the only thing I miss from the UK)
Have a Toyota Prado now but would love a Peugeot 307cc or a Mercedes SLK
