I worked there for 14 months (thankfully didnt live there) and trust me its a very depressing place.

Some of the suburbs around it arent too bad (secret harbour, Shoalwater etc) but still pretty soulless and the facilites are crap. You really have to go up to Perth to get decent shops, restaurants, nightclubs.

If you're going to WA go anywhere but Rockingham.

THATS A SURPRISE! it looks so nice on their site and lots of general comments said it was nice but i dont think they lived there ( holidays are a bit different)

where do you reccommend??? im glued to real estate .com so another place would be great to check out!!

If you were more into nightlife and sports then Melbourne would be the place to go.

Perth is only marginally cheaper than Sydney to live in now apparently

I like the east of Melbourne personally but it really depends what you are after on a daily basis for me to be more specific:)

For us on a daily basis we would like a nice community and close to schools with a commute to work of anything up to an hour tops, so pretty much the same as most young families really!!

What are the outer suburbs really like ?? i noticed a few one was called Emerald , they look nice??? (im really swinging towards Perth at the minute!!)

We are in a great position,we were granted our visas May 11th and then our house sold 2 weeks ago, the problem is we can't decide where to live!! which is pretty important !
We have researched so much (too much ,i think) and now we are at a standstill. The places so far have been: Bunbury,WA, Rockingham and outer suburbs of Perth and Mornington Peninsula,Vic and outer suburbs of Melbourne ( opposite sides of Oz,I know!!!) we are going crazy .

There are 6 of us to make considerations for, me (zoe),hubby, 4 sons aged 15,9,7 & 1 and my husband is a Bricklayer, good schools and a nice community are our main criteria , we would really appreciate any ideas on good places to live in Australia (we are open to all states!!)

THANKS:rofl:

Lived in Mornington for 18 months before we moved over to Perth a couple of months ago. Early days I know, but which do I prefer? Mornington, by a country mile. Fell in love with Melbourne as there are always stacks of things to do. Live now in Secret Harbour just south of Rockingham (and a previous poster is right, do not plan to live there!) Very nice area where we are now but just too quiet

Have to agree, my friends 17 year old, is so disparaging of life in Rockers, she HATES it.... Nothing to do for her, full of "bogans" and very little in the way of public transport so diffiucult to escape,.. There is soo much building work though, that you should be able to pick a spot somewhere nice.

Good Luck

Bogans are (depending on who you talk too)
a) An integral part of Australiana, part of whom makes the country what it is
b) my o/h describes them as "deliverance"
c) V8 fan, mullett sporting, thong wearing pig shooting, emu bitter drinking. (all of them combined, but goes for the female and male bogan)

Or for me, the people that pulled us out of the sand when we got stuck in our bogan mobile a few years back!

Bogans are the australian offspring resulting from the marriage of white trash and rednecked hillbillys:)

Cashed up bogans (CUBs) are distingishable by the supercharged V8 car that they drive (hoon about in) more often than not wearing flannelette shirts and sporting a mullet type haircut.

Bogans even have their own website:ohmy: actually its quite funny

You can find out more HERE. It even includes pictures to help you recognise the "species" when you see it. Just beware - some poms find the bogan lifestyle quite attractive

Zoe :-)

I live 10 k from Emerald and its a lovely township in the hills. Green, lush and a welcome relief from heat in the summer.

P:erth and Melly = chalk and cheese, you need to see them both really......
