My husband was diagnosed with an incurable cancer here just 4 months ago and is having chemo, he is trying to work as we are not entitled to centrelink until Dec 09 when we have been here 2 years. It is hell and I want to cry most days but keep going.
Today they have told him that him working 2 weeks on and 2 weeks off unpaid is not working out and will be advertising for someone else.
Devastated !

Perthforme was told he had incurable cancer of the brain and had only weeks to live. Over a year later he's still irritating the good people of Perth ;) Stay positive and determined people, it can't hurt.

Make the most of the time you have. In some ways you are lucky to be able to face mortality and make the best of it, some of us never do until it is too late and a loved one is lost to us suddenly. Laugh when you can.

I slog away day to day in a small laboratory trying to find new drugs to fight cancer, pretty much on my own because we're so short of cash. It's stories like these that give me the strength to carry on.

Im so sorry to read about your husband, 3 months after we got hear my hubby found out he had cancer, we didnt have health insurance thought we would take our time getting it, neither of us were working and we had to pay for the radiation treatment up front as there is only private radiology where we are,we did manage to get a rebate so we only paid about $3000 instead of around $11000, my thoughts are with you I do know how you feel.

Thanks for the encouragement, hope your hubby is ok now. I just feel so alone and out of my depth not knowing the medical care system here, I am hoping for the best :fingerscrossed:

Hi Somme. So sorry to hear about your predicament. Without the support it must be very difficult.

Have you seen the nurses forum on here? Here is the link
http://britishexpats.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=72

I'm not sure what it's used for however the nurses who frequent the barbie every now and again are lovely, caring and kind people. I'm sure if you ask for help in there someone will give you all the advice and support you need.

Keep strong mate. And keep sharing your thoughts on here if it helps. I'm also sorry to hear about your OH's job situation. Life sucks sometimes but don't let it get you down. If you have friends nearby don't be afraid to ask for their help and support.

All the best mate:fingerscrossed:
