You can't take it with you. May as well enjoy it while you can.

That's about it. May be different on the less affluent east coast.
I would say that is well above average.

Or a massive mortgage. Everything's relative.
You're forced to pay for road maintenance, street lighting, policing etc. If you dont live in an area that has loads of crime, you're still being forced to pay for the area that does. So, free country perhaps but you accept paying for locking up criminals, why not help give money towards rebuilding areas that were damaged by the floods? Not saying you havent already but many people will not give unless made to give.

A massive mortgage could be a reason. But as I said, you can be wealthy on most salaries. Its about having the lifestyle suited to making you wealthy using the income you earn. A massive mortgage is a lifestyle choice that may or may not help you become wealthy.

But that's not the average person.

Exactly. $200k gives you a mortgage of $700k using the normal multiple of 3.5. With a deposit of about 10-15% that gives you a house price of, say, $800k. A lot of money, but in a lot of places will get you an average house.

As you say, it's all relative.

Ok, poor choice of words on my part. What I meant was, the 2 houses dont make you wealthy. The value of those houses do (or dont).

I don't accept paying any tax. It's government sanctioned theft (income tax that is). The only reason I do is because I don't fancy a stint inside.

I agree with you but contractors are a minority. The workers like their security...

It would be a pretty dark world if you were allowed to not pay tax. You'd have no roads, public transport, protection or even a right to work.

Tell that to the global elite. How much tax do they pay with all their money stashed away in tax havens?

There are many tax havens that seem to do OK without forcing the people to cough up.
