Default Can we expect a summer in Sydney this time?

So will we get a summer in Sydney this year after the last poor effort!

I think the warmest temps were in November 2011 then it all went downhill. I took the first week of December last year off work and it turned out to be the coldest and wettest start to summer in yeaaaarrrsssssssssss! The sight of all of those poor tourists down at the wind and rain lashed Circular Quay! was bloody cold also!

Compared to a British summer I guess it was no great hardship but by Sydney standards it was a shocker. All the other capitals did ok, even Melbourne had some hot days at our expense, Perth and Adelaide roasted as usual and Brisbane is always hot and wet anyway. Wouldn’t be surprised if freaking Hobart had a warmer summer than Sydney last time.

Fingers crossed for something a bit better this year, Sydney is probably over due a long hot one.

At least everything has been nice and green I guess

El Nino is turning it on in the south Pacific.

This means (for Eastern Australia) a summer of:
  • No rain
  • Drought
  • Endless Sunshine
  • Fires
  • Hot dry conditions

Which I gather you'd rather like.

Not really, why can't Sydney just have a nice warm summer with a bit of rain here and there to keep things fresh.

Suppose we are in the land of droughts and flooding rains afterall.

Just asking for an improvment on last year not for a summer full of heatwaves.

Well I only plan on having a few here, so that would suit me just fine. Particularly in The Gap

Melbourne usually has hotter and drier summers than Sydney, its winters that Sydney does better than Melbourne.

I've been in Sydney for 4 years and am still waiting for the hot dry summer to come.

I am known as the rain goddess- ever since I arrived 4 years ago, all I hear is "our weather isn't usually like this."

Not hotter on average. According to BOM Melbourne & Sydney have exactly the same average max in Jan and Feb...and Sydney is warmer every other month of the year. With warmer nights Sydney would average out warmer every month of the year. Definitely a drier summer in Melbourne normally though...and Melbourne summer is significantly sunnier.

The La Nina totally affected Brisbane's summers as well making them quite mild and far wetter. Wasn't just Sydney it was the east coast.

I hope you're right. A bit of rain every now and then would be good though.

Never seen sooooooo much rain than in the last two years.

Lashing it down in Perth, I believe! Wife is there this week.

Actually they are forecasting neutral to weak El Nino at the moment - which would mean not wet, but not drought either :
