Default Can anyone recommend a hotel or B&B over New Year in Sydney please?

Hi all,

My sister is going over to spend time with my brother in Brisbane in December but wants to spend New Year in Sydney.
I'm having trouble finding anywhere for her and her boyfriend to stay. Everywhere seems booked up already.
Can any of you recommend a hotel or B&B close to the city centre or at least with easy access to the centre please?
We did find rooms available at the Ibis hotel at the airport. Is it easy enough to get into the city from there and would it be easy enough to get back there in the wee small hours of New Years Day?

Thank you!

Julie. x

Bump - am also interested in places to stay, preferably a 2 bedroom apartment!

Any info would be of use.

sydney harbour bed and breakfast is lovely,in the rocks, which is one of the oldest parts of town, about 5 min walk to circular quay, dont know what the prices will be for new year though, think wherever you go will be expensive www.bedandbreakfastsydney.com, they do a cracking brekkie, and the couple that run it are really nice and helpful

Thanks for the replies Peeps.

Just one more question - where about's is going to be best to stay??

We are gonna have a car, but chances are that will be parked up for most of our time in Sydney. However, more from a point of view of walking around / eating / entertainment / New Years Eve.

We have been looking at Darling Harbour but not really sure of it's location. Ideally, we want to be watching the fireworks et al on NYE!

Cheers.

LOL - Sorry Sam. Not coming back I'm afraid. At least not yet. If circumstances change before our PR runs out then maybe. Who knows
Will PM you soon I promise.

By the way, my sister found a hotel.
She's staying in the Hotel Stellar. It's near Hyde Park and a 15 minute walk to the Opera House. She paid $250 per night for a double room. It's the same price for NYE too.

If you want to watch the fireworks there are several areas you could go to.
Have a look at this:

Personally I would avoid the Botanical Gardens because it fills up with drunk English people very early on who end up singing Beatles songs and chanting and if you want a tasteful experience, don't go there.
You want one of the points off the harbour area on the other side imo.

You'd have to get there early in the afternoon and settle in with a picnic for a long wait or you won't get a space. Get the train, leave the car.

Hope that helps.
