Oh... I forgot.

Make sure the camera has a viewfinder at the back, not just a screen.

The prob with the screen is that in certain light it's really hard to see what you're doing. Sometimes you can't see the screen at all. Not only that but it's too large an area, you can see loads of stuff in your peripheral vision... A viewfinder really helps you frame and crop what you don't want without any other distractions. It's essential to be able to see down it if you want to take good pictures imo.

Looks good. Has 10 mpixels, which is what mine has...

My only bug bear is that it doesn't have a viewfinder... just the screen on the back, so you'll have to decide if that's a problem or not for you.

Pictbridge is good...
http://www.digicamhelp.com/processin...pictbridge.php

The ISO range is good enough... does it have a tripod fixing?

Lithium battery is good.

Looks like a great starter camera for a kid imo.

The fact it's cheap and a Sanyo rings alarm bells.

Half it's normal price doesn't mean anything other than they're shifting stock to make way for new models... But I've never used it.

Perhaps the OP needs to search the web for a review of it before she commits.

No.. it just means no one has reviewed it!

The bottom line is that most of these cameras parts usually come from the same source anyway. They're all covered by a guarantee and they're all basic things... that is, the recording of data on a chip.
This is not rocket science!

I've just had a look through some reviews of Sanyo equipment as a whole and it seems very good.

I've found another Sanyo camera that only has 4.1 megapixels, and here's the link to the sort of photographs which it's capable of:

http://www.pbase.com/cameras/sanyo/vpc_az1

I would imagine your chosen camera could deliver much higher quality images.

Oh and Sanyo use Canon lenses... which is excellent.

I personally wouldn't have any problem buying that camera whatsoever.

Thankyou so much for your advice im very grateful im no photographer and im not extremely computer literate so i really do appreciate all the advice you have all given me.

Looks like this is the one and as its over half price i thought a bargain too.

We are hoping to be in OZ in the 1st half of the year and at the moment heading 4 Bundaberg. When shes taken some snaps ill post and prehaps you will be good enough to give her any tips. By the way ive just seen the snaps you have posted and all i can say is WOW makes me want to be in Oz now fingers crossed we will sell our house soon and we can be over there experiencing wot you guys have.

Take care all

Don't forget to get a large memory card for it. The one's that come with the cameras are fairly rubbish, size wise.

Hi there - spotted this yesterday but didn't get a chance to reply

I use a Fujifilm sf6500i, which is a very good camera for all-round use. It has lots of different settings & you can switch the function so it operates exactly like a much more expensive digital slr, but at a fraction of the price - I paid £160 for mine in Currys.

Best of all, because it can switch to auto, all the family can use it. My 12 year old is a whizz with the thing & it's given her loads of confidence & scope to practise & experiment.

I would definitely recommend it & shop around, there's some great deals on!

Good luck

That won't hold too many, especially if she plays around with the sizes. You should be able to get a 1 or 2gb quite reasonably anywhere. There was a special in Kmart the other month and I got 2 1gb kodak cards for about $30.
