My OH is a photographer and he recommends either Nikon D40 or Canon 350D.
Hope that helps

Hi Ian
Both my OH and myself are photographers - check out www dot beckhamdigital dot co dot uk and we use Digital SLR's I have Canon 5D and OH has Canon 1ds
ANy of the top two Nikon or Canon would be your best bet and make sure you go for the very best you can afford and do not go for anything less than 6 million pixels and you will get some great prints.
If you need further advice please do not hesitate to pm me

Thanks,
Model I fancy is the Canon EOS 400D SLR Digital. Seems it is a fairly new model,so should have all the mod cons. Can get one in Harvey 'Normal' for around $1200,obviously I will haggle them down as far as poss and see what extras they bung in.Would you recommend this model?
Thanks again

I recently treated myself to a Canon EOS 400D and it is an excellent camera. Easy to use for the novice digital SLR user. Take a look at my gallery pic, some photos on there which I have taken recently with it. It is on par with the new Nikon D40x, but still came out top ever so slightly. I have had the camera for about a month now and I am extremely happy with it.
Go and try some, get the feel because some feel slightly small to hold, especially with big hands. Canon have a bigger range of lenses so that is a plus for me also. Also a reasonable price, currently canon are doing a cashback offer. It also has a self cleaning sensor unit which the Nikon doesn't have.
Hope this helps.

I have bought the Samsung NV10, an amzing bit of kit and I am slowly learning to be a bit more adventurous with it and occasionally even switch it to manual mode!

I took the leap and bought the nikon d40 and love it.. I have the 18-55 kit lens and the 70-300vr zoom lens.
I had a fuji superzoom for for years and boy am i glad to move up.
Just one thing makesure your a eyepiece user not a screen watcher, cos unless you get the Olympus (it think) it's eye piece only.
Good luck in your choice and the best advice i got when choosing between the nikon D40 and the canon400 was hold it and see how it feels.
Do not be tempted by a D80 the D40 and 350/400 are just as good.
If you wanna go the whole hog try the D200 (Getting one from Heathrow on the way out in August.
)
oh here's some pics I had had the camera 3 months at the time and they were in automodes (night action etc) a croc won't wait while you take a light reading nor will the wife when your messing about under story bridge with your bloody camera!!!!

This is an excellent site for information.......
www.dpreview.com
Lots of facts and test results - well worth a look.
I've had good results from a Pentax SLR over the last 18 months.

If you go for this take care as to the type of lens you choose, we went for the enthusiasts kit. At that time Canon were doing a cashback, so check out their site
