Thank you all for your comments! Much appreciated. Many thanks for the links too! As usual, there are so many opinions and it's confusing. Some people think a place is great others think it's a dump. Guess we really need to have a close look at it. Important for us is a safe family-orientated place with outdoor opportunities like cycling & swimming either in the sea or in rock pools. Where we are now there are hardly any outdoor pools (guess due to the weather in Victoria), no real opportunities for cycling unless you want to ride your bike on the highway and it's busy busy busy.

We do worry though if a place is considered a bit 'rough.' We've been to Frankston (considered rough but council is pouring money into the place - about 45 km south of Melbourne) and it's full of bogans. House prices still reasonable but no way we want to settle here.

Again, thank you & if you have any other suggestions we would welcome them. We heard Buderim is supposed nice and Nambour.

Buderim is very nice, probably much more expensive than Caboolture & certainly Nambour, which personally I don't think has much going for it. Buderim, and especially Nambour are a LOOOOONG commute to Brisbane.

As for cycling...check out another thread on here from the last couple of days....as someone who does cycle around these parts I find it pretty scary....I'm led to believe from mexicans that driving standards are better in Victoria.

Hi

We live in Burpengary. We hope to settle more perm in Narangba eventually. I am about to start Uni in Caboolture it takes me about 15mins in the car. Hubby works in Geebung and goes on the train takes about 30mins. Narangba is lovely and has good schools my kids are at Jinibara and I have heard good reports on Narangba valley high. I beleive there are aquite a few pathways through the housing estates in Narangba valley which would be good for cycle rides, just family rides though not hardcore mountain biking (not sure what level of cyclying your'e into). Just out of Burpengary is Caboolture aquatic center which has an outdoor pool and bbqs plus indoor facilities. Bribie Island is 25mins away which has lovely beaches and 1 where you can let your dog off. Between Burpengary & Narangba we have all the major supermarkets incl Aldi. Morayfield mall and Northlakes mall are about 15mins away.

My husband did look at Caboolture and it has some lovely spots although we felt it looked a little bogan. Now this would not bother us at all if we didn't have school age kids but we do and we didn't feel like taking a gamble. The last place we lived in was the same and although where we lived was great, the kids that my kids were forced to deal with in large numbers every day at school was concerning.

Anyhooo its horses for courses, some people love the place and have no issues with the schools/area.
Hope this info helps a little, we have only been here 2mths so my knowledge is a little vague and my opinion of Caboolture is based on personal immpressions not hard core evidence so i could well be way off the mark.

Thanks again! We did consider Narangba but we heard something about health issues??? Some sort of accident at a plant that happened?

We also have children (4 years & 1 year) so it's very important to live somewhere with a nice little school (perhaps a quieter area) but definitely not somewhere where you would feel concerned for your children. We're not snobs but there are places which are best to be avoided if you have children.

Thanks for your info.

No sea or rockpools, in Caboolture, Burpengary, Narangba or Morayfield.

Perhaps look at Beachmere, Deception Bay ( bit Boganish ) Toorbul, Sandstone point sounds like it would suit you down to the ground.

Even Bribie, if you like old qld'ers at high prices.

Narangba cleverly put most of the industry in there township on the Deception Bay side of the highway and it was here that the chemical works the fuss is about was situated, so it doesn't really effect Narangba at all. If you look on map the chemical works was near the Morton Downs part of D'Bay, just over the road and up a bit on the right.

They are spending a lot of money removing all the possible contaminated soil from the area exposed due to residents protesting.

Deception Bay is cheaper as it used to be a feral area but that is changing as lots of the feral's that used to be in council house equivalents have been moved on and at present like else where lots of new houses and estates being built. The other reason is that it has mud flats in the Bay not sand when the tide goes out so not as des res as the likes of Redcliffe that has sandy beach and a big free lagoon/swimming pool or Scarborough that has beaches and marina etc..

Only a matter of time ANN, and Dbay will be seeing massive cash injections. IMO anyway.

I reckon for those in it for the 10 yr plan, D'bay makes a great choice, and anyway, you can always say you are in South Eastern Burpengary ! :)

Ste

If they change the mud for sand they'd be laughing.

But the mud is very good for dog walking.

Once they run out of room at Redcliffe they'll logically follow on to D'bay which in the last two years has already mushroomed.
