Default Buying things from U.S. websites

Hey all,

Just came across a nice little site that lets you order from any U.S. website (even if they don't send items internationally), and sends the parcels to your country. I would have loved this if I was still in Oz!!! coz things are so cheap over here. Anyway, I've ordered a few things successfully from them and had them sent to my family back in Sydney. If interested the site is www.worldpurchases.com

Do you get caught for import tax buying from the US? I've purchased a few things from HK & Japan and had no problems but wondered about the US.

No, same as from anywhere else in the world. I buy loads of stuff from the US now. Local retailers don't seem to want to pass on the savings they are making due to the exchange rate - so it's time to bypass them.

Come on then Amazulu, don't keep the name of it to yourself. Who do you buy from in Cali?

I think if its under $1000 AUD, then you won't get taxed. But with the current exchange rate, its a good time to go on a shopping spree lol.

Anybody care to post a couple of examples of some good buys from the US to show us exactly how much we can save?

I must say, I do buy my Asics shoes from the US rather than here - even with shipping, they come to half price.

I'm in the US currently, we're applying to move to OZ. Question about electrical outlets - I understand OZ has 220 - not 110 like US. How does it work to buy electronics from US when the outlet isn't the same? Is there a converter?

Further more here is a website with pictures of the plug standards link. You probably want to buy a plug/socket converter to be able to plug it into the wall.

And you will most likely need a step up converter to convert 110 to 220-240
