We're thinking of getting a cat. Other than 'not a pet shop' I've got no idea where you can/should get cats from.

Any ideas? We're in Brisbane.

I'm sure somebody else will have specific recommendations but a quick google suggests there are quite a few pet rescue places in Brisbane.

If you're out a lot, please consider getting two, to keep each other company - it's no more hassle than having one and may save your furniture

(If you travel a lot, maybe research local pet sitters before you commit, too. We had trouble finding one where we are.)

Seasider yeah that's why we've not got one up till now, because we do like going away on holidays! My sis in law lives 10 mins from us now so she'd be able to help when we're away, so that helps. But don't want to get one if it's not going to be fair on the poor thing.

It would be home alone some days, it depends what shifts I'm on (husband works normal day shifts, I'm a shift worker).

We got a dog from them when they were still at Fairfield and they were good...shots included in price and you have a little interview to ensure the animal is going to a good home.

The Weekend Shopper in Saturday's Courier Mail has a pet section and, often, people are giving away kittens.

If they don't get homes, they might end up at the pound anyway, so you could save them the trauma.

Get two... Young brothers that have been done from the rescue place of your choice....

Cheaper to "do"..... Friendlier than queens... And need each other to remain "cat"

Put away the christmas tree before they arrive, remove all curtains...coz they is both climbable... And decide from day one whether you want them to eat cheap cat food or the bloody stoopid expensive stuff.... If its the cheap option then. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES allow them to sample the small tins of dead expensive stuff coz there will be NO going back.

Say goodbye to your cherished ornanments, your unscratched sofas and your precious rugs...

Prepare to be woken for demand feeding and by ninja cat attacks at 3 am...

Stock up with sticking plaster for repairs to hands after those playful moments they will have

And forget about booking a holiday for at least 18 years.... Because if you try and put them in a cattery for a vacation they will never speak to you again, merely occupy space in your house...
