I joined the Brownies when I was 7 and when I was about 11 I became a Girl Guide.

Re: Brownies, Girlguides, Rainbows......
My daughter started at Brownies here in QLD then moved up to Guides when she was 11. They become Rangers at an older age.
This may help explain some different opinions on names:
Our local unit has chosen to stick with Brownie, Guides and Rangers.
This may help explain some different opinions on names:
The younger girls (formerly Gumnut Guides aged 5-6 years and Brownie Guides aged 7- 11 years) love being known as Guides and having the opportunities to choose the name of their Unit.
In some areas girls have decided to keep the name Brownie or Gumnut or Ranger as a tradition in their Unit name while others have chosen names such as the Dolphin Guides, Bilby Guides, Junior or Senior Guides.

There is no Rainbows or Brownies here they just start Guides at 5. My daughter did it till she was 11 (not cool enough now!!) and loved it.

My 12 year old goes to Guides at Padbury, north of the river.I was just going to say but it has been answered that guides stars at 5.I know that a couple of groups closed down as there are so few girls who want to do guides round here.At least the girls from England help keep the numbers up!Sue.

If you used the term "Brownies" over here you'll probably be met with a "ssshhhht, you're not supposed to use that word out in public!"
