Brits taking over Perth's north
"ALEX Bowen says he's the "odd man out". An Australian in his own country, he shouldn't feel he's part of a minority. But he does.
Pulling pints at The Boat pub in Mindarie, he often struggles with the assortment of strong English, Scottish and Welsh accents that bounce around the bar.
Mindarie is the epicentre of a cluster of northern coastal suburbs that the British High Commission in Canberra recognises as the biggest concentration of Brits outside the UK."

Could you get a more biased and slanted piece of 'journalism'?
odd man out ... stranglehold ... colony ... outnumbered
The Daily Mail would hesitate to be that biased.
It's not till you get to the lower half that they actually start pointing out that they are considered to have a positive effect, seldom complain, have a positive attitude.
And when you get to the last lines you find what is really getting the journalists goat :
"Australia for the Australians" would seem to be what he'd like to be allowed to say.

The number of Indian residents jumped from 14,096 to 29,918 and the number of Chinese to make their home here doubled from 8001 to 16,691. There was an even bigger jump in migrants from the Philippines, from 6866 to 17,230.

Well I guess if he has a problem with it, we can all just buy our beer elsewhere.

Re: Brits taking over Perth's north
Whilst I agree that the opinion of the writer is quite slanted in one direction and it's definitely a bit of a shockumentary type story (the point of which escapes me), I can imagine that it would feel, a little bit odd, to grow up in a place surrounded by pretty much the same accents and now when working in the same areas surrounded by British accents.
If you think about back where you grew up (obviously only if you didn't grow up in NZ/AUST!) and then went to work in a suburb nearby and were surrounded by entirely Down Under accents would you find it a wee bit of an unusual experience?

I was surprised how benign the article was after reading these comments.
Since the latest census figures were released there have been many stories discussing the figures...seems to me the journalist just did the usual "human angle" thing so he could work the census numbers into a story. Nothing particular critical about it....if anything I would say it was mostly positive about Brits the whole way through with light hearted ribbing at most.
