Brisbane, South Bank: Bars & Restaurants ?
Only got one night at the Rydges on business next week and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend somewhere nice to get a drink and some food. Nothing posh, but not bogan either.

For pub grub you can try the Ship Inn at Southbank (there is also the Plough but I have not eaten there) or a trip to the Belgium Beer Cafe is always good in the city.

For beer & not posh nosh I would recommend The Fox though, which is very nearby. They have a great rooftop bar but with it being winter not sure if it will be open / busy. You should be able to eat in the bar, or there are separate restaurants there as well.

Mado's or Ahmets on southbank serve great turkish food and the Plough is good for a few drinks but can get very busy just after work.
The places on Queen street mall tend to be a bit pricey for what you get but the Pig and Whistle is about the best of them.
The Irish pub on the Mall is good value (can't remember the name!).

depends what night you're here but my suggestion is to just walk around South bank or the city both close. there is heaps of good food and fun pubs at either place. Bris is pretty friendly and laid back so you should enjoy yourself easily. If you want to go out close by the emporium has great food too. Let me know what sort of things you like and what night and i'll fond you something as i live only 4kms from the city. Kel

Bearing in mind I've not actually been in Brisbane for over a year, I might not be the best person to advise, but if I recall correctly there are quite a few nice eateries around on the South Bank.
A friend took us on the City Cat from Southbank over to the Regatta Hotel in Toowong though for a nice lunch: http://www.regattahotel.com.au/home.html
ETA - I don't think the Regatta was too bogany.

Southbank has plenty of restaurants but they are not much chop....tourist prices and tourist food.
Better to do something like jump in a cab and go to Bali Grill in Rosalie, Paddington. Order the duck. Book if end of the week.
