Bit of rain and idiot driver numbers increase..

It happens everytime there's a bit of rain here in Perth.

We're driving back from a restaurant last night and all the dickheads are out doing wheelspins in the wet etc. I saw at least 6 on a 10 minute drive doing burnouts, with some moron losing it completely while coming out of a sideroad and spinning the wheels. His back end went and he done a full circle, thankfully the oncoming traffic wasn't going too fast and they managed to slow down in time.

I'm really growing to enjoy my time here in Perth, but I still find the driving and mentality of drivers absolutely shocking.

(please note that's not to say people don't drive bad in the UK, but it's just so much more prevalent here).

I don't think it is just Perth either!

A woman trashed her car in front of me coming north on the F6 in to Sydney near Waterfall yesterday in the wet.

I still say they should learn to drive in manuals. They would appreciate car control much better than a stop/go go-cart automatic.

Yeah, i hate automatics and i wouldn't drive one if i was paid to, i don't think there's any control in an automatic and it freaks me out that there is no gears to slow the car down.

The drongos were out in force here too.

So what about the Perth drivers? They must infuriate you more, surely?

You can override an Auto gearbox, to use the gears to slow down... well, at least mine can...

Drivers here are just not used to what happens when the road gets wet, I think a lot of it is down to inexperience of the change in road conditions, rather than anything else, although of course there are "some" idiots.

Dry conditions = 1 ft behind the car in front of you as slipstreaming saves you petrol:sneaky:

Wet conditions = 6in behind the car in front of you to save petrol and keep your car dry:sneaky:

Speed up towards amber lights in the wet and then beep at the idiot in front who stupidly slowed down in preparing to stop:blink:

Add in poor street lighting and road markings makes for a fun time driving.

Also add in the young lads in their V8s with no idea how to drive in these conditions (or any conditions for that matter).

Recipe for disaster.

Don't move to Singapore then - near death experiences every day.

Last time we were in Perth all the Aussies we met complained about the driving there but I only saw one piece of wanky driving equivalent to Singapore all week. Here, it's literally every 3-5 minutes.

Don't know what you mean by that question??

Anybody who drives carelessly infuriates me :frown:

Because of the preceding link to an article on one spectacularly genetically-challenged Brisbanite and it was a poor attempt on my part to draw an inference between that article and your criticism of driving standards here...

Sorry. Won't happen again....

We had a hire care when someone smashed into our car outside our house in the snow and it had no other fwd gears:eek: But it had a button for slippery conditions.

It was a Kia Sedona - very good.

Cooler

Disagree - they are there all the time, just waiting for a spot of rain to demonstrate their inability to control a ton of metal <g>.

I find them quite useful: I can tell it's raining outside within ten minutes because the police and ambulance sirens start up. No need to get up from the chair and look out of the window.

I think Australians are taught that aquaplaning a car is the automotive analogy of the 'free lunch' because during the period that they are floating on water their fuel consumption is negligible. Therefore, the rain allows Australian car drivers to become "greener", if only for those 4 seconds before they impact, from behind, the people waiting at the traffic lights (and that's the 10% who didn't jump the lights in the first place).

Genius...

It's even more environmentally helpful than that: the guy "in front" picks up free energy when he's projected across the lights. Getting close to perpetual motion, No?

I live in the wrong part of town then, get the idiots doing burn outs round here most nights. Glad I'm moving before the extension to the road behind us is finished. The fresh tarmac is going to be a big magnet for them:thumbdown:
