Default Best dvd editing software, any ideas?

Hi,
I'm just on my way out to get some dvd editing software so I can send some nice DVD's back home. Any ideas on a good package, and best place to buy. we are on the north gold coast.

Thankyou

Adobe Premier Pro is probably the best, but you'll pay through the nose for it.

TMPGEnc DVD Author is quite an easy to use authoring program - it's paid but you can try a download.

DVD making is quite a black art - be warned! It's pretty complex with lots of pitfalls which even the best programs don't necessarily prevent!

Thankyou for all your replys .

We have tried the Sony vegus option because we have Sony everything else. The theory being, Sony being Sony, this will have less compatability issues.

Fingers crossed I'll be able to send some good DVD's back to the inlaws.

Thanks again

I'd be interested to know how you get on with that, I have a Sony camcorder with digital tapes so I have to rip the video onto the PC as a first step, which takes up massive amounts of HD space.

Does Sony Vegas make it fairly straight forward? I want to be able to youtube some of my video clips as well as put together DVDs for the family back home.

Just a quick update. Well we tried sony vegas, but it's so processor hungary it kept crashing. Our processor is 2 which according to the package is fine but after various crashes we had a look at some forums, which said you really need a processor of at least 2.8.

So, because we really want to do this, off we trot to get another new pc. However, this time after talking to a few people, we decided to go for a iMac. Absolutely brilliant, after a few hitches it reads the sony mini dvd's and we are waiting for a cable so it will read our old dat tapes.

I'm having loads of fun with the comic features and sound effects.

Thanks again everyone

nb thanks hutch and renth for mentioning imac,

Thumbs up for imovie hd. I like imovie 08 for quick edits and good for first time users looking for quick results and have just got imovie 09. Looks pretty good so far but haven't done enough to make a proper comment.

Welcome to mac

I bought ours for doing all the media stuff to send back home as well as all the other stuff. I've not looked back. I enjoy using it and don't spend hours fixing it like I did with my windows thing that always crashed.

iMovie 08 is ok for a quick and dirty job for the rellies. iMovie 06 had more features for a more professional job, but unless you need to do a porfessional job iMovie 08 is fine.

Not tried 09 either, but may get it because I want the piano and guitar lessons that come with garageband 09.

I own premiere pro as well, but since I got the mac, I harly ever turn on my PC.

I found that with iMovie08 the audio and video always was out of synch. I really thought it was a piece of crap and even apple did the unthinkable and made iMovie06 available free to registered 08 users to "downgrade" to. Which is what I did.

I've had no problem with sound in 08. If I ever want to do anything complex I'd probably fire up the PC and use Premiere. I may have a look at 06, but might be good to see what 09 is like first.

Hard to complain when it costs about $30.
