Now maybe you could say they don't know better and haven't been exposed to most of the good stuff - however - if you look at what the Australians' tend to say is top comedy its ALSO full of the same American pap - and they do have the opportunity to see British stuff.

I don't think British comedy is funny now. If you look at it, the best stuff was in the 60s and 70s, or 80s and poked fun at a particular type of British person or society. The humour does not travel because the minutae of British life does not travel that well whether it is Ab Fab, Dad's Army. if you think about it, most classic British comedy is based on the concept of the 'Little Englander' and the stuff they get up to in their everyday lives.

I haven't seen Australian comedy as such. I do find Australian standup funny. There are some good comedians out there.
