Ha! I'm an Australian living in Italy and I 100% understand why he's still in power. And Italy most definitely isn't a "Catholic" country BTW. It may seem like that on the surfact but only on the surface. Mr B controls almost 100% of the media here. In Australia you may be hearing a lot about this scandal but it's hardly mentioned on the news here and if it is it's all about how poor old Berla is being attacked by 'gossip-mongers' and he only gave the Moroccan girl the Audi and made that phonecall to the police station out of charity for the poor immigrant girl.
