I remember our (excellent, though short-tempered) physics teacher launching a blackboard duster at a boy who was blabbing away. Unfortunately she missed and the thing landed in the back of the head of some girl, who was just sitting innocently. I can still hear the "crack" that the thing made. ![Mad](https://britishexpats.com/forum/images/smilies/mad.gif)

Just back from first parents evening for yr 10 daughter and up to now was feeling ok about our choice for daughters school here in OZ(private school with good reputation). But OMG now am worried, one teacher refered to some of the children in daughters class as 'Nerds'
Then when discussing different types of maths courses in yr 11/12 teacher said daughter was good enough to have a go at Maths B but to watch out for Maths A as it was for 'Dumbos' OMG.

The teacher chose to use real world terminology in a conversation with a grown adult that isn't swearing and some want them reported !??!!
Some people here take things just a bit too seriously me thinks. Cut the teacher some slack please because I can guarantee that your kids use words which are a darn sight more offensive in the playground.

Wow I can't believe the reaction to your post. The amount of people on here who are "outraged" or otherwise offended.

can I just clarify it was two separate teachers one was the English teacher who called some of the students in my daughters class Nerds. The other was my daughters Math teacher who is also her form teacher.
During both discussions my 15yr old daughter WAS present, fortunately she is not the type to go into school and start telling the other students what had been said and can see the teachers for what they where in which is very unprofessional. What worries me is how is my daughter expected to have any respect for her teachers if this is the way they openly talk about students. I am a nurse and would expect to be severely reprimanded if I talked about patients the way the teachers spoke about their students.
