Been offered a job - trying to work out travel costs - help!
Well you'd think that after 2 1/2 years in Australia I'd be able to work this out for myself, but I very rarely use the car...so I cant!
The job is part time, 15-20 hours per week - I'm hoping I could do it over 4 days at 4 hours per day. Anyway, it would mean travelling 30 mins either way each day. So, 4 hours travelling per week.
Or...I could catch the train... help please!!!
Train or drive??

How far - 35km
Car - Holden Jackaroo 4wd
Close to train station - Yep, walking distance, and its walking distance at the other end too
Thanks

I'd definitely say the train station since you're close enough to walk. Not much point in driving when you can take the train. Plus if you drive you might have to pay for parking at the other end which would mean you'd have more than just petrol to pay for.

Commuting as an individual in a 4x4 doesn't add up at the minute.

Assuming 35 km each way, so that's 300 km a week, give or take, at 15l / 100 km (assuming a petrol motor and average commuter conditions) equals 45l per week at $1.60 a litre comes to about $70 a week on fuel. Not including wear and tear. Probably quite a bit more expensive than the train.

Re: Been offered a job - trying to work out travel costs - help!
Cheers F!
Nah not web design - its just a receptionist job which is why I'm still not 100% if I should go for it or not. I applied for a job with them in their local branch last year but didnt get it, they kept my file on record and said they'd be in touch if anything came up. If it was local I would def go for it but a commute, for a part time job, on a pretty crap wage...not sure if its worth it??
Make the decision for me please!!

The other thing to bear in mind is that part time roles are as rare as hen's teeth and often you have to drop down in terms of your capabilities to secure something. Once they see how good you are the scope of the role may well broaden or you get promoted to another role.
Why not give it a go for a few months and keep one eye open for something else? I've always found it far easier to get a job while you are employed. Good luck mate, let us know what you decide.

Thats some seriously good advice there mate! Cheers!
I havent actually been looking for work in the last 12 months - focused on studying and then getting the business up and running. This call came from out of the blue so it took me a bit unawares!
I'll let you know what I decide!!

Agreed. Always better to be lookng at it, than looking for it.
