Beach Driving - can we (AWD Hyundai Sante Fe)??

Re: Beach Driving - can we (AWD Hyundai Sante Fe)??
Interesting, I suspected it might not be as easy as planned.
I'll look into the cost of a 4x4 for the day. I know it's all beach, that's why I wanted to check and see if we could drive on it before taking the ferry over
I'll look into it a bit further. We might try one of the tours instead, although it could be more of a pain with the little kids (ages 4 and 1)

Perhaps as your going that way, why not drive towards Gympie, take the exit after eumundi markets, head towards Noosa, hang a right, catch ferry over to rainbow, and drive up the beach... WIDE WIDE sand, easy for your car, and a great pub at top, plus restaurant n stuff !!

Regarding the Santa Fe on Fraser - No - there is too much soft sand on the inland tracks and tbh the Santa Fe is too much of a 'soft roader'. There is a company just as you go into Hervey Bay, Oztracks I think it's called will hire you a Land Rover or a Toyota 4x4 for either a day or a few days with an accommodation package thrown in. Your daily or holiday hire will also include your ferry ticket and permit for the island. The beach is fine for driving with a soft roader but you will suffer in the soft stuff with one - might as well hire someone elses and save yours for another day.

TBH I wasnt aware any hire companies allowed their 4bys on the beaches, under any circumstances, and ones ive seen all have specific clause, FRASER not permitted lol.

My husband of course thinks no problem. But I could see us getting stuck, so I figure I'd better ask everyone on here!
A tour might be the way to go

Nice pic
Well, we can really visit any of the others. We were just thinking about Frasier because we've heard it's beautiful.
We could also do Stradbroke because it's really close, or possible some of the other islands. Not quite sure what to do. It would be ideal if we could bring the car over on the ferry and drive around on the roads to get to the beaches. I don't really care if we drive ON the beach exactly, although it would be cool (as long as we didn't get stuck). LOL.
Does anyone have any input on island day trips? Any good ones with activities for the kids and maybe some nice cafes or something? Definitely needs a nice beach too!

So, my mother in law is visiting and we're thinking of heading up to Frasier Island (from south Brisbane). We're hoping to take the car over on the ferry and drive on the beach. Will we be able to take our all wheel drive Hyundai Sante Fe out on the beach, or am I dreaming?
If we can, any tips for the trip? Or for driving on the beach? I've driven on lots of snow and ice but never a beach

The inland tracks at fraser are awful. The beach however is a great place to drive at low tide. I would think a visit to seq without going to fraser is a waste, its wonderful.
I am sure though that if you hire any 4wd there is a clause that states if they sfind any sign of salt water on the underside of your car you lose your deposit. As its actually almost impossible to drive up the beach without going through a wash out you can kiss your depo goodbye.
Ps I took our Jackaroo and was a bit worried as its a bit of a softcock of a 4wd and she was outstanding. Never once had to change the ratio and even was half way to lake Mckenzie before i remembered to put it into 4wd
Drove smoothly past navaras and hiluxes bogged in and even past a landcruiser troop carrier.
Its a wonderful place but go fron inskip and not harvey bay as the drive across the Island is awful, I was over 4wd driving in about 5 mins

Been to Frazer... absolutely LOVE the place. We also have a SANTA FE.... Trust me... It won't work on Frazer. Way too soft for a road going 4x4. You will need to either hire a proper 4x4 or do as we do and drive up there. Stay in a motel in Hervey Bay and hope onto one of the off road excursion tour companies. Its cheating. But your'll never make it round Frazer. Straddie maybe... but no way Frazer. A lot of self confessed professional drivers or experts may say different. But remember an Expert is ex- (passed it) and (spurt) is a dribble of water
