Question BBC shows on itunes Threatening UKnova?

Just been reading that some popular BBC shows are now going on iTunes for download at around £2.00 per episode.

Does anyone know whether this is going to affect their availability on Uknova?

The feeling now is that, no, this will not affect UKNova because the sales are specific to the UK. You cannot buy except from iTunes UK.... which requires at a minimum a UK-based credit card and possibly using a UK IP address. You must also use iTunes and iTunes-compatible equipment to download the video to -- eg Apple TV.

ONCE AGAIN, BBC, please offer a worldwide subscription service and people would gladly pay.

Yea - just DVD I believe - and anyway, TheBox aren't bothered by such issues.

It won't be the BBC's choice. If they sell the rights to a show to Australia to Fox, say, the rights will almost certainly be to ALL broadcasts of them in that country.

All terrestrial/cable/satellite broadcasts, yes, but sooner or later companies will have to realise that the Internet does not respect international boundary lines, and reserve the right to distribute content via the Internet.

That is a much bigger issue, I agree. The music companies seem to have given up on DRM and any other means of controlling distribution of music. Instead they make their money out of concerts with $100 to get in, $10 for a drink and $25 for a programme - no chance of "copying the experience". It is a radically different business model - let them have the music for free then tempt them to paying out 10 times the price of the CD for a night out at a gig.

There is not a direct equivalent in DVD's, but maybe if they let them be seen free over the net with adverts every 5 minutes and along the bottom of the screen (we already get that on Aussie terrestrial tv) it might work.

The BBC have even restricted access to some web pages - I can’t get on the Torchwood page because I am not in the UK.
