Australian coffee
Is there a famous brand of Australian coffee? Obviously beans could be from anywhere, but is there some well known decent Australian brand that can be bought in the supermarket ?

Re: Australian coffee
Australians aren't mad on instant coffee here (lots take a couple of trips a day to their local coffee shop, or they buy capsules and one of those machines. Out of those who do buy instant coffee here I would say the most popular is probably Mocconna. Next would be Nescafe Blend 43 (which tastes disgusting). My preference is Douwe Egberts because it's a good strong coffee (much like the Nescafe that we used to drink in the UK) and it's relatively inexpensive.

Re: Australian coffee
Yes, Nescafe Blend 43 is as (disappointingly) Australian as it gets. Funny, most countries have their own brands of instant coffee that are a household name but unfortunately Australia doesn't really have any. No doubt someone will be along soon to correct me....

Nescafe blend 43 is an Australian version of Nescafe and thats about it.
I thought Carte Noire was Australian until I saw it on the shelves here in the UK..... Which is the instant I fall back on when I'm feeling lazy...
I've got one of these babys in mind and I keep putting out hints to my friends. It's an Australian system.

Re: Australian coffee
What was that brand that all the cheap companies used to put in their kitchens, it was in a white tin, International Roast? That stuff was nasty!
Years ago I worked for a company that was opposite the Nestle's factory on Mars Rd at Nth Ryde. Every Friday we were allowed to access their staff discount shop. We were a mixed bunch at work. All the Pommies would buy bags of sweets, the Aussies would buy biscuits and the Asians would buy noodles ( Maggi IIRC).
I don't recall anyone getting coffee, so maybe that was off limits? Man, that place used to stink when they were cooking.

Never drink the stuff (unless it's with Irish whisky and cream). I'm an English breakfast kinda girl.

Re: Australian coffee
I don't drink instant if I can help it anymore, as it makes me feel a bit woohoo!, but do have Moconna in the cupboard. I have 2 cups of fresh coffee very morning, made with a simple cafetiere (ala Ikea) and generally go for a medium roast, such as Harris (as that's usually on offer). I'm not a coffee snob at all and think the machines are overpriced and unnecessary. I have never liked the pod machines. Think they are over priced and the coffee is generally crap.

With coffee I think it depends what you're used to. Some people grew up drinking Maxwell house so that is their preference. Remember all those chicory rich blends like Camp coffee? People used to love those once but now few go near them. I doubt you can buy it any more.
