To be fair since the cold war ended there has been a huge disarmament of the West.

The British got rid of virtually its entire nuclear arsenal - which was HUGE: nuclear shells for large calibre field and naval guns, nuclear mines to place across German plains, nuclear depth charges, conventional numeral free fall bombs, nuclear missiles. They only have a few nuclear missiles on the submarines and thats it.

That was all wasted if third world nations are going to build huge stocks of their own.....

Of course. Who says all the resources under Australia belong to one obese woman named Gina? What right has she got to strip them out and sell them to India for her personal enrichment while everyone else loses their jobs? No right.

All minerals and resources should be nationalised and profits returned immediately to everyone in the country. In the meantime, Australia is being hollowed out to increase the performance of future enemies like China for the personal enrichment of a few hundred men and women, who if the shit ever hits the fans will be on their private jets and outta here in a flash.

And not just nukes - look at the reduction in naval forces since Falklands.

I just don't get the UK these days. Unless self destruction is on the menu.

Don't get me started on foreign aid to countries with aircraft carriers and nuclear weapons.

It is true that warfare has changed, but the question you have to ask yourself is, if a large navy is not needed, why are the Chinese expanding theirs like there's no tomorrow?

Because not only are they looking to buy Australia piece by piece they want to be able to protect their investment.

Now, I know there's a reason why the US just moved 60% of its Navy into the Pacific and are planning to park a carrier group in Perth, but I can't work out what it is...
