As that Lebanese woman was saying in the video posted on this thread, good muslims are irrelevant in the current situation

All wars are brutal and have depraved human behaviour, It's just that there are now a million cameras out there that can bring it to lounge rooms in an instant.

Imagine if there had been smart phones in the Vietnam war..... there were some terrible attrocities perpetrated by the Americans on civilians (Gooks) there. Germans, Russians, and even the British have all been involved in mutilating bodies in living memory.

Is it more brutal to kill 100 plus people by pushing a button on a missle array or slicing off someones head.... Or indeed letting someone choke slowly to death over the course of 90 mins in an execution chamber.

I suspect if he tried to return, the use of someone else's passport might be enough to keep him a little restricted for a while.

Sure, all that is sad and true but in the past and irrelevant to what is happening today

This is our time, our problem, our challenge

Again, the fact that the vast majority of muslims are peaceful means diddly squat as muslims are doing this today, in the name of islam

+1 It's like a bad PR branding exercise - and I think ISIS and the Islamic Brotherhood are 'branding mistakes' wich do not add any legitimacy to their cause.

I said as much to my wife on the weekend, after reading an article about how this century will be a fight against radical Islam after we put Facism and Communism to death in the 20c.

We've gone from Gulf 1 and Gulf 2 and 9/11 to Afghanistan which ended up being all about terrorists. Who were they and where is the threat?

The thing about what is panning out in the Middle East now is that there are terroists and extremists invading countries in the name of a 'state' or single group. If anything, this will backfire as people around the world say - this is not just about oil, brokering peace, ceasefires (soverign Israel vs Palestine), and crazy terrorists - this is an organised group who have declared civil war on their region. Enough is enough. Instant lack of sympathy.

Peaceful Muslims of course protest that they are being asked to denounce terroists when they see it has nothing to do with them.

I confess to wondering though how malleable your average Muslim is as some of their rules do seem questionable by Western standards. How easy is it to radicalise a Muslim?

Remember though - cultural relativity. By the same token, a Muslim finds Westerners easily corrupted and malleable - look how we imbibe drugs every day - booze, for example. They find that astonishing.

UDA, IRA .... stamp on Christians? How do you differentiate between the lunatic and extremist fringe of a religion and the mainstream peaceful followers?

The claim that all war is the cause of religion is a bit silly.
Adolf, Mao and Joe Stalin probably were responsible for the deaths of 100 mill +

This century will not be a fight between radical islam and the west. Russia, China, India will be a much bigger threat to our way of life, not entirely through conflict but through economic decline in the west.

The muslim threat in the big sceam of things is negligible.

I agree. It gets the press because it looks scarey. It pictures well on TV. We don't see the pictures of people fleeing the war lords in Africa. Maybe because the yanks aren't involved.
