If you're not taught something in school, and it's not something you think about in later years there's no reason to know that something. If you're interested you read up on the something and you learn. Each country teaches history in their own terms, from their own perspective. No big deal, just how it is worldwide. And it doesn't spoil the ANZAC story at all. They're not celebrating a conflict, they're commemorating the Australian and New Zealand Army Corp on a date of deep significance to the Corp. British, French, Iranian, Outer Mongolian military are irrelevant to the day. Everyone is then commemorated on 11 November.
